Just wondering if anyone else is applying to the above programs? Or if anyone has gone to them? What are my chances of getting in? (Stats below) I've heard acceptance is pretty high and was wondering if anyone would recommend which one I should go to if I get into both?

GPA: 4.0 (unweighted)

Courses:
Pre-Calculus G/T
Physics G/T
Spanish 3 Honors (there isn't a G/T)
Biology AP
Computer Science 3 AP
Government and Politics AP
English 10 G/T

I'm only a sophmore so I didn't take the SAT yet. I got a 220 on my PSAT :( but then again I didn't study... :)

I keep thinking that CMU AP/EA and CMU SAMS are the same thing. Sorry, I don’t know anything about this pre-college AP/EA…but it would be nice to take a computer science course, if you end up spending your summer at CMU. This is actually the first summer program that I’ve seen without an application form (They just list a bunch of things to enclose in an envelope)

SAMS kid here. You could definitely apply. It really all boils down to where you live and how good your essays are. I’m not half as good as some of the kids who got in, but I can write and that was my saving grace. There are two essays for every program, I believe. I honestly believe SAMS is the best since we get our own separate dorms and we get a college calculus class. It’s honestly the greatest thing I’ve ever gone to. You might even be over qualified. That does happen. But just write some awesome essays and you will be fine. No need to worry. PSAT will count. Mine did. And it was much, much lower. no matter which program you apply to it will be awesome!

Overqualified?! Maybe academically, but I don’t have a lot of ECs because of high school sports taking place at the same time. I was considering SAMS because it is so much cheaper. However, do you get college credit? And what is the female/male ratio? While being the only girl in AP Computer Science may seem like fun in theory, in actuality, it really isn’t.

Its actually free. When you do the application, you turn in your family income. The books are the only mandatory cost, like 200$. There isn’t any college credit for the Junior schedule, unless they finally give credit for the ridiculous amount of work for Physics. Seniors get credit for whichever math you take, either Calculus or Pre-Calculus. And the boy/girl ratio… I’m not sure. Pretty close to 50/50 because of equal opportunity. I’m not sure if AP gets free tuition, but I think you have to pay. And SAMS is still the best one IMO.

Could you tell me anything about SAMS? @KitKat I meant there’s no “form” like an “application form”. they ask you to enclose a bunch of things together then mail it

For juniors, math is pretty bull. Not going to lie. We had a few kids who were at your level and they flew by in math. Math isn’t like a class, it’s more of a recap and how you can apply math to realistic settings.
But SAMS isn’t just about math. It’s about introducing kids to STEM fields and giving them first hand knowledge of subjects that are probably not even talked about in regular high school classes. You would still have a lot of work and fun, even if you do well in math.
As for essays, I completely BSd mine. I finished them the morning before I HAD to send them. I honestly think its all about showing you as a person. Let your voice shine through in your writing and don’t try to be fake about why you want to go. Be sincere. I tried to do that and I made it with very subpar stats. Very. Sub. Par. :)
