Cornell: The Lesser Ivy?

@mach2 I think Brown may very well hire there own internet ■■■■■■ to go out there and talk about how Cornell, Dartmouth, UPenn CAS, etc are “the crappy Ivy” to lure prestige whores to brown. nobody that is mature enough to be considering a top college should even be thinking about ridiculous stuff like this. it’s insane. lol.

the ivy sentiment on this board and in certain competitive high schools is not shared in the “real world”. I have come to learn this upon graduating.

Gomestar is right. It usually happens the first time you realize the smartest, most effective guy in the office went to Montana State or perhaps never went to college at all.

The OP seems to be very influenced by peers. If Cornell has the right atmosphere and disciplines for YOU, then apply. If not, then don’t. If some arrogant moron for some reason looks down on you for having gone to Cornell, then just either explain that Cornell has the best / one of the best programs in your field of study or just prove you’re smarter or more effective than the arrogant moron and shut them up.

In the end, you’re the one who’s going to prove them right or not, not your diploma.

people forget that just coming to cornell doesnt mean you are programmed to be this badass in the real world…

unless of course you brownose your way through networking

Treehugger, please don’t apply to Cornell. We hate you.

QFE

Um…Isn’t Cornell the best Ivy league for engineering/sciences?

Definitely for engineering, but idk about sciences.

For the life sciences, it is at the top.
For some of the social sciences (i.e. Psychology) it also shares the top.

^ And there we have it.

I’m a bio major so that makes me feel good. Haha.

Caillebotte, The purpose of this post was not to say that I view the school as a bad school. I even mentioned that after seeing what Cornell has to offer, I really think it is the best school out there. It opens the most doors in life. My post was simply asking how others viewed the school, because around here, Cornell receives that reputation. I can form my own opinions without the influence of a general trend from the area that I live in. I said multiple times, I believe Cornell’s program fits me, and will probably offer me an education far more comprehensive than any other school, even Harvard, Princeton and Yale could possibly do. It was a question that I threw up in the air to see how others viewed the stereotype, and how others, outside the community I live in, view Cornell. Maybe I titled the thread wrongly, but my intention was not to tell people that I believe Cornell is a worse school, and trust me after my sister got into Cornell, i found myself on your side around my school defending the school when others would tell me those stupid stereotypes about Cornell students and what not and how they related to my sister.

These threads are getting pretty damn annoying. There must be one posted at least every week.

I think cornell is the more well-rounded of the Ivies…I’d rather go to UIUC or Berkeley as a engineering/CS major than Yale…

just because cornell has higher admit rate doesnt mean its worse…i think Cal state LA has 14% admit rate

In the Onion’s college issue last winter, they called Cornell the easiest Ivy to get into and the hardest to get out of.

NEVER attend a university just because of the repute you THINK you’ll receive just by attending there. Instead, go to a university you will TRULY love, and make the most out of what it has to offer, and perhaps create opportunities for yourself also. You’ll come out a lot more successful that way, TRUST me.
