On my transcript ,it only has my weighted GPA . But you guys on CC are always talking about the unweighted GPA . I called Cornell college of arts and sciences undergraduate admission , and the lady said that they only look at the GPA that the school puts on your transcript .I asked her if they recalculated the transcript to find the unweighted GPA , or if the recalculate the GPA in any other way . She responded simply saying no , and that they have thousands of applicants , so there is no time to recalculate things on one applicants transcript .Also , she said that the first transcript that the college sees from the applicant has their first semester 12 grade scores on it . So is she telling the truth ? lol Another question , is Cornell college of Arts and sciences the easiest to get into , because it has the largest accepted number .

They will compare your GPA to that of other students in your school. I’m pretty sure that most, if not all schools, recalculate GPA because they can be inflated by art classes

CC talks about unweighted GPA because it gives a standard that we all know - there is a big difference between 3.8 UW and a 3.8 W GPA. Also, depending on how your school does a weighted GPA, a 4.3 might be fantastic or it might be horrible, and it just easier to tell us the UW rather than explain all the intricacies of your school’s particular system.

As for how any one particular college views you GPA, that’s really not for you to worry about, there’s nothing you can do about it and they know how to interpret just about anything to their standards, but be sure you’re comparing apples to apples when deciding if you have a reasonable chance at getting in.

As far as a particular school being easier or more difficult to get into, are you really so hepped up on getting into Cornell that you’ll study anything when you get there, as long as you get in? That’s a good way to make yourself unhappy once you get there, especially if you really wanted to study something like engineering. Try picking your major and getting into the best school you can for it, rather than lusting after some prestige factor and twisting your goals into a pretzel while chasing the mythical beast.

Your to funny , “mythical beast” . I have so many reasons to go to Cornell , other than because its prestigious .And i will be applying to the Arts and Sciences part , because they do have my biological studies major . Also when i called the lady said they just look at whatever the GPa the school reports , they don’t have time to recalculate anything , due to the number of applicants . So my school only reports the cumulative GPA .No Unweighted or Weighted . @MrMom62

well when i called they said they look at the GPA the school sends . In my case my school only send the Cumulative GPA , no unweighted or weighted .And i called the admissions office of Cornell Arts and Sciences and she said that they don’t have time to recalculate anything because of time and odiously the number of applicants . So i guess that’s where the SAT is extremely important , because is standard for everyone , there’s no inflation or anything .It holds everyone to a standard . @Anniebeats

Then what is your question, because you apparently already have all the answers you want.

i just wanted feed back from others and to see if everyone else had a similar experience . @MrMom62
