Cornell University Fall 2020 Transfer

Hello everyone! I am planning on submitting my application by the end of this week, I am just wondering if you guys know if there will be any application extensions not only for Cornell but for other colleges? I am also applying to Columbia as a transfer, and they extended their deadline to March 13th. Please let me know! Thanks

For those of you applying to Dyson, make sure that you have less than 60 credits on your transcript. I was just in a webinar with a Dyson counselor and they stated that they do not look at applications with over 60 credits of college classes. So essentially most students with associate’s degrees are screwed. After a half-hour of questions with admissions, I just got a bunch of the same excuses for not accepting students with over 60 credits. They will instead push you to pursue a master’s degree at Cornell instead of transferring.

Hi there! I applied for Fall transfer to Hotel School. Any other applicants who did as well?

I’m 27, had a 5 year gap in my education since I left college to work full time to help my family.
I’ve been in CC since spring 2019 and will graduate now in May.
GPA: 3.53/4.0
Classes taken: college algebra, pre-calculus, biology 1 with lab, macroeconomics.
Classes currently taking: survey of calculus, chemistry 1 with lab, microeconomics
PTK member
Math Tutor/Math Teaching Assistant at my college.
Have worked full-time as a flight attendant for 6 years now and have total 10 yrs in the hospitality industry as I worked in restaurants before my airline job.
Letters of Rec: Economics professor who I had fall term and now this term, my pre-calculus professor from fall term and the VP from the airline I work for.
For the essay I wrote about my educational road, why I left college, what I did during my time out of college and in the workforce, what I learned about my strengths and weaknesses, what I acquired from my work experience, why I decided to go back to school, how Cornell’s SHA would help me achieve my goals and what courses specifically I want to take while there.

@TenTsewang4 that makes no sense since we all realistically know that some of the courses from an associate’s degree probably won’t transfer to Cornell based on the rigor comparison. That sounds sketch. what major are you applying for?

@TenTsewang4 - that is not true. who did you speak to? On their website, they have specific counselors for each department.

At a cc, literally the entire curriculum that Cornell suggests is more than 60 units so that’s like saying if you have too many but u did everything, we wont accept you. On the other hand, if you have under units but you didn’t do everything, we also won’t accept you.

i dont know

It sounded crazy when I heard it, but I spoke directly with Eli Kozick from the Dyson. Here is the response I got in writing:
From your transcript it looks like you already have more than 60 credits? In any case, it does not look like you will be eligible to be accepted to the Dyson School. However, we encourage you to work towards your Bachelor’s degree in order to join Dyson in one of our Masters of Professional Studies programs.
Should I still apply? Very confused. Thank you!

Yea, I spoke to him on the phone as well and said that I know for a fact all 62 of my credits won’t transfer. He said that Cornell doesn’t want to ask its transfer students to complete more credits than any other regular student? I get what he was trying to say but I would gladly stay at Cornell for another semester if need to be to complete all the 60 required credits I need to take there. I’m applying for AEM.

Do you guys think there is any chance they will waive the mid term report with everything going on? My campus was evacuated and I wasn’t able to get all of my grades/signatures. I know some other schools are saying the mid term report isn’t required anymore for transfers but not sure about Cornell. I’m wondering if they’ll maybe send out an email about it

I asked Ian Schachner and he told me to have my professors email me with an approximate grade based on whatever has been completed at this point and then upload those emails to your file.

Hey man just curious, do you know if this is Dyson specific? This really worries me because I technically have more than 60 credits, I’m applying to CAS.

I’m trying to apply as a junior transfer, so currently a sophomore.

Freshmen year: 29 credits
Sophomore year: predicted 29 credits
Ap courses: 20 credits

This technically means I’m transferring with 58 credits from actual college courses but adding in ap credits, I have 78.

For the part on the application: “How many college credits will you have earned when you enroll at the college to which you are applying?”

Answer: 60 or greater

Do you have any idea if this basically ruins my chances of getting in? I spent countless hours on my application and essays as well as recs, if it just gets tossed for such a trivial reason I’d be pretty upset

Yea man I would be pretty upset too, especially counting the fact that I only learned of this by signing up for a webinar the week before the deadline. The counselors did say it was Cornell-wide, but I think some programs are much stricter than others. I tried to pry out some more information but to no avail. Good luck!

@TenTsewang4 Thanks for your information. It is worrisome that they won’t consider those with more than 60 credits. I am currently a freshman and I came in with 46 undistributed credit and 35 credits that actually apply. I have also taken 35 credits freshman year and spent around 15 hours on this application. I am applying to CAS. I went onto the CAS transfer thread and I did not see anything preventing people with more than 60 credits to apply but rather that only 60 credits will transfer over.

No problem, yea I’m pretty sure every college takes a max 60 credits. But even then, I know Cornell won’t take all my community college credits, and I wouldn’t mind spending an extra semester or year there, because after all it is Cornell.

@TenTsewang4 - i contacted my counselor and she said

“There’s no cap. However, please be aware that only 60 transferable units will transfer to Cornell if admitted.”

  • so......

@heyigotnoclue
Are you applying to Dyson? I had two phone calls and an email convo with my respective counselors. They ended up saying I can still apply but it would be better to consider their master’s programs. I just applied anyway.

Hi all! Cornell SHA undergraduate transfer prospect here! I am a bit nervous with materials being sent in on time given the Corona Virus…

; The applicant portal states all supplemental materials are due by Apr 15.

My three questions:

  1. How does the mid-term report work? If I have completed over 60 units, is knowledge of my current Spring progress even necessary?

  2. Are CR reports needed for all colleges? I went to a UC for one year and finished up my second year at CC. The common app states:

“A College Report must be completed by you and a college official from your current or most recent institution and submitted separately to Cornell University. Without a College Report your application will be considered incomplete and not be considered for admission.”

  • I only had one sent from the CC given the "current or most recent institution"
  1. What the heck is a TRCD course description? Does Cornell SHA need it?

I am hoping I can connect with some of you and get some advice.

Good luck to you all

@heyigotnoclue - yes i did…so now im freaking out. ill email her again -_-

PaNiCks - but its fine i applied to like 30 schools ROFL - at this point my essays are basically a walmart version of my first one :frowning:

yes im aware i did this to myself LOL

@TenTsewang4 ill keep u updated

Hi @babykiko, I am also a prospective SHA fall transfer. Mid-term report is required by Cornell so they can see your current progress in your courses. With this, they can make an admissions decision and contingent on final grades upon completion of the term. Even if you have 60 units, it’s required. So, just submit it via the application status page.

CR is required differently based on each uni you’re applying. Cornell requires only from most recent institution. I had been out of school for 5 years prior to starting again so only my current CC CR report was submitted.

I have no idea what TRCD course description is, lol.

@llinrs thank you for getting back to me!! Got it, thank you! And best of luck to you

@babykiko thanks! Hopefully, we’ll be in the transfer class together ?
