Hey everyone, I was almost 100% set on going to Northeastern after getting accepted to the University Scholars Program, but I just got accepted to Cornell University! I'm so very conflicted :((

Northeastern:
The University Scholars Program would cover full tuition
Close Mentoring Program
Co-op
Boston

Cornell:
Ivy League
Opens up a ton of connections
40K A YEAR!!! :(
Ithaca

Opinions? Experiences? Is an Ivy League really that great?

BTW
Major: Biochemistry
Track: Pre-Med

Northeastern to save $100k.

I feel for you. We had the opposite. Daughter got into Northeastern with 25 k scholarship, and got into Cornell (ED) with 40 k financial aid. Your dilemma with 100k difference is a lot of money for most families, but not for all. Discuss it with your parents. Some families have the $ put aside for college and want their kids to pick what makes them happy. For others it would be a hardship and not worth that price differential. Consider contacting Cornell for an amended offer. Good luck.

PS. With Northeastern’s co-op programs, you should also gain connections and experience.

Have you visited at all? If Cornell isn’t your top choice, the ivy brand name alone wont change your mind. Whether or not its worth the 100K is up to you and the fam. You seemed pretty decided on Northeastern earlier, so if you do decide on Cornell, don’t let it be just to say you went to an ivy…it might matter among some people, but certainly not among med schools.

BTW how have you already heard back and for which college? Likely letter?

This is such a joke. I wouldn’t deign to even think about going to Northeastern.

@Iheartschool12 is wrong. Northeastern is a well respected university in the NE area, and its co-op provides wonderful opportunities. I HIGHLY doubt that Cornell will open many more doors than will NEU, especially if you excel academically. Save the money!

Thanks for all the helpful comments everyone! I’m most likely going to do the University Scholars Program, names alone really aren’t a determining factor. I have a few friends going to Cornell who love it there and told me the experience is like no other, but I’m attending the Scholars Weekend at Northeastern this weekend and I think it’ll be the deciding factor for me!

@Boester22 - I got letters from both, Cornell sent me an actual acceptance early even though I applied RD, and I got the Northeastern letter in Mid February

Thanks Again!
