Cornell vs. Claremont Mckenna College

I am trying to decide between College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell and Claremont Mckenna. I am interested in studying economics (and finance where available) and am aiming to go into some form of investments/investment banking once I graduate. The two schools are incredibly different and have advantages and disadvantages. I am leaning towards Cornell right now because of the east coast appeal and the breadth of courses I can get. I know CMC has a great econ program, however, so I want to tread carefully before I make any decisions. Thoughts?

Cornell has an edge when it comes to IB recruiting. That said, AEM majors at Cornell fare better with job placement in investment banking than CAS students, so it’s definitely not going to be easy to go into banking from your position in Cornell. However, getting into IB from CMC is a far more intangible proposition.

From the perspective of education, neither school can do you wrong. CMC is more renowned for its Gov’t and econ, though Cornell is probably equally strong in both departments.

This comes down to a question of coasts.

Do you want to work in NYC or LA/SF?

Each school will give you more options on its respective coast.

Also, big school vs small school.
