Thanks

I don't have time to write a detailed response right now, but for engineering, definately go to Cornell.

try searching the cornell forum for now. It'll try to get back to you with a more detailed response later.

Cornell is top of the ivy league for engineering. I don't know specifics though.

is cornell good for civil engineering?

I would choose Cornell for engineering, but this is coming from a Cornell engineer. The resources for Cornell are just so much greater. Cornell has an entire quad for its engineering while Columbia has only one medium-sized building. Engineers at Columbia tend to go for non-engineering roles while engineers at Cornell go into anything and everything. You'll have more opportunities at Cornell.

Cornell is better than any other Ivy League school for engineering. Period.

As for the other pros and cons, it depends on your preferences of weather, school size, location, etc.

I would go to Columbia - but along engineering lines, what about Fu or MIT or Cooper???

columbia is in new york
thats all i have to say

so true, so true.....

that definately gives it a head up over whatever state Cornell is from :)

"columbia is in new york

Yeah... but it's also in Harlem (aka morningside)

"I would go to Columbia - but along engineering lines, what about Fu or MIT or Cooper???"

It appears that FU and MIT are quite popular but what about Cooper? People haven't talked about it much. Can anyone say anything about it?

Columbia > 20,000 students > 40 acres > very urban > very little school spirit.

Cornell > 20,000 students > 800 acres > practically rural > more school spirit.

In terms of Engineering, Cornell is obviously better, but Columbia's Wu Foundation is solid At the end of the day, you should visit both campuses and decide which one fits your personality best.

I think you'd have more fun at Cornell than in Columbia because it has a greater school spirit, bigger campus, and possibly better looking women.

Col. is uptown, yes, but certainly not IN Harlem

What is FU?

The engineering school at Columbia is named "The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science". Here's a copy of the 1997 press release when the school was named http://www.engineering.columbia.edu/news/archive/fall97/cover.php

I am also confused as to why they are referring to "Fu" as outside of Columbia.

They're refering to Columbia's engineering as "Fu" because it is very much a very separate branch of the university. Although it's on the same campus as Columbia College, same housing and everything, you apply to to "Columbia University- Fu school of engineering", and Columbia makes it very difficult to transfer to Columbia College from Fu if you should ever want to.

PSQUARED - Cornell is also in New York State
