Disclaimer: I’m being purely speculative and adding some of my thoughts…so don’t quote me
Because they originally maybe didn’t know what the WL outcome would be, they could have been “reviewing applications” because CAS still had to find out who would be “at the top of the list” should they go to the WL, regardless. (Or for that matter, see who and who won’t be given TOs)
They could be doing something similar to MIT and ik it was mentioned earlier in the thread…that waitlist decisions will essentially be delivered like RD decisions…so CAS will use the portal to notify those who were accepted, that they were, and everyone else that the WL is closed (or give TOs).
In addition to the amount of apps they received this cycle, CAS could have genuinely not counted on the FinAid issues/delays/extensions and/or are shorthanded in staff which could contribute to the WL timeframe
That said, I have to agree with @Didica6199, CAS is the largest school and it would personally surprise me if CAS doesn’t pull at least one student from the WL. At this point, only Cornell knows. “It’s not over till it’s over, or something like that”
idk if cornell is doing the same thing but I’ve heard that a lot of colleges keep their waitlists open even if they’re pretty full in case some of their admitted students are waiting on other waitlists too and end up committing elsewhere. so they were probably reviewing apps just in case they decided to admit later on. I’d think that at least a few people would get off but oh well
for CALS, asked my regional AO and CALS admissions about waitlist updates.
regional response:
At this time we do not have any updates with the waitlist. We will hopefully know more in the coming weeks.
CALS admissions response:
Thank you for your continued interest and passion in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. If you are admitted from the wait list, you will receive online notification of this decision. Your enrollment deposit must be received within five (5) business days of your online notification.
We notify wait list candidates of their status as soon as it is clear that additional offers of admission can be made or that no space is available. Meanwhile, it is important that you assure yourself of a place at another college or university to which you have been admitted.
[and another paragraph about loci and updates, nothing new here]
Freaking out right now… should we call to confirm whether or not they’re going to the waitlist?? Hoping these reports about them closing isn’t true for all of us
Yes there’s still an upload button. But my portal format changed. I’m CAS, my twin sister is a different college and her portal hasn’t changed. The paragraph at the top of the page that explains that you can email them, the type of materials you can send in, etc is gone.
I would’ve assumed that they would be. CAS is the biggest college at Cornell. I’m just hoping they accept some people instead of it closing entirely): praying for us guys
