Something I’ve been wondering:

Do Cornell fans know how to cheer at basketball games?
You’ve had three years to get the routine down, have you come up with anything decent?

I guess you can do the newspaper crinkling thing and yell “boring” when they introduce the opposing players, that could translate.

But do they yell “It’s all your fault” when an opposing player gets dunked on? Sieve?
“You, You” when a guy picks up a foul?

I hope they;ve got something creative, the nation is watching, it would be a shame if Cornell fandom looked boring. In that case tell them to flash to a hockey game.

We’ve been stealing a lot of hockey cheers at the bball games, but a lot more straight up raucous yelling than in hockey (my voice was more tired after basketball games than hockey). If this basketball dominance continues (which I hope it does after this year) maybe basketball fans can develop a couple of unique cheers of our own!

LETS GO RED!

there’s turning around when the other players are introduced and saying “sucks” after their name is called. throughout the game it’s just really noisy “let’s go red” and “defense” and some shouting coordinated with pep bands. oh yeah, and at a free throw there’s spirit fingers and then if the shot goes in you give a fist pump. I have to admit I’m not the most diligent attendee but I think this is generally accurate.

My personal favorite is Gary Glitter, aka the Hey song.

my odds (heard it here first):
get blown out, mildly embarrassed 3/12
soundly and convincingly thrashed 4/12
merely defeated 4/12
wow, pinch me, we won! 1/12

But, as I learned at Cornell. even events of zero probabliity do occur…

Oh well. This was a once in a lifetime event. So I hope we enjoyed it.

Meanwhile, hockey has a huge game tomorrow. And, you know, it’s a sport that we can actually do well in on a consistent basis.

Kentucky’s not a college basketball team, it’s John Calipari’s Pre-NBA Babysitting Service. At least it’s not a blowout, they just went on a pretty nice run.

It’s not over yet, if Cornell can find the sweet touch with the 3s. If not, it was a great, historic run!

I’ve been watching the team all year and the only time the only other time they have shot this poorly has been at Penn. 3 missed open threes and four missed free throws and we have a tie game.

There’s still a chance.

Good run guys. Sad that all the players are seniors basically, but Donahue is a great coach.

We still have hockey (which I don’t follow) and lacrosse (which I do follow, and we have a loss to Syracuse that we need to avenge. Badly.)

ahhh well. that was how they looked the last time I saw them (exactly one month ago in fact.) my ears are ringing, but roaring with thousands of Cornell fans was so worth it. also I thought it was extremely satisfying that we did our hey song cheering when the UK band played the song.

damn proud of Cornell basketball and what they were able to do. Damn proud.

See you guys in Albany tomorrow.

Have fun in Albany gomestar. Maybe if we win I’ll be feeling like making the trek tomorrow. Long drive from Buffalo, though. Train isn’t reliable.
