Cornell??!

Hey guys,

Today I got a postcard from Cornell University and my mom now wants me to apply there. I really don't think I have a shot but she is adamant.

GPA: 3.79 (54 credits)
ECs- Meals on Wheels (that's pretty much it but I am very dedicated to it)
Phi Theta Kappa member

I would be a transfer student.

Thanks and please try not to laugh :)

What college are you currently attending?

I am at a community college right now.

bump .

Colleges send postcards all the time so more people apply.
While your GPA appear to be within the lower range of acceptees, your lack of ECs will hurt. Unless if you can write some killer essays and get great recs, you will have a hard time.

Extracurriculars don’t actually matter too much. I would focus on raising your GPA. You could run Haiti fundraisers every other weekend, publish three books, and run your own successful company; admissions officers would still do a double-take at your GPA. You want to move into the > 3.95 range.

Ha thanks. I don’t have enough time to raise my gpa that high. I actually calculated it and the most I could raise it to is a 3.84. I was kind of bummed because I did have a 4.0 until I took chemistry. lol. :(

You have very low extracurricular can be a factor in deciding on if you can get accepted into a college. Your GPA is also on the low range on the side for their standards, but idk your ACT/SAT scores, sorry but i dont think you will get accepted. Sorry):

Are you at a cc in NY state? There are articulation agreements with NY State and selected other ccs for the contract colleges at Cornell. Check the Cornell site for more info.

Thanks for your reply . I don’t live in NY I live in Houston
