Corp and Texas A & M

If you are not top 10% and don't have 1300 on SAT's, does it help in the application review process if they know you want to be in the Corp? I'm in top 22% (GPA 3.4) with average SAT scores.

absolutely

It can help, BUT there are several factors that have to be involved for it to help. First, you needed to express interest on your original application. If you call the Admissions Office and add it to your application, it will not hold a lot of weight. If you have never made a visit to the Corps Center, talked to any Corps recruiters, or mentioned it in your essays, those are all indicators that you are probably adding it as an afterthought to increase your chances of getting in. If that is the only reason you want to add it, best to not waste your time. However, if you seriously would like to join the Corps, contact the recruiting officer at the Corps Center and talk to him about it.

gxgal7 is absolutely right. Strong Corps interest can help but it has to be clearly legit. There are probably plenty of people that check that little box when filling out their application online. So, you have to clearly show WHY you checked that box. I myself wrote about Corps interest in all of my essays, I did Spend the Day with the Corps and Aggie Eagle Program, and the Corps has my information so they call me regularly.

Have you shown any such interest?

I did Spend the Night with Corp....when I did Spend the Night with Corp I requested a change in my major with the admin office. This was back in October. I doubled checked at the beginning of January that my majors were still the same on the AIS page. In the email I sent them to tell them when I requested a majors change I mentioned Spend the Night with the Corp. She said they would make a note in my file. I know I probably wont hear anything until March or April and then will be waitlisted. I just wanted to know if it helped. We are going down this weekend for Aggieland Saturday, is there anyone I should contact with Corp while I am down there?

jbg1204, I'm sure the Corps Center will be open during Aggie Saturday to talk to prospective cadets. Stop by there and ask to speak to one of the Corps staff officers and reaffirm to him that you want to be part of the Corps, that you put it on your application, and that you did a Spend the Night. They definitely have the ability to put in a good word for you with admissions if they feel you are sincere about your intentions.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a question.

Is the not 10% but 1300 rule apply to out of state?
And what if you ARE top 10 AND 1300+ but out of state? lol

The 10% "rule" is actually a Texas State law that applies to Texas HS students. It does not apply to OOS students. This says nothing about how the class rank and test scores are evaluated for an OOS student. We don't know, and they are free to use any criteria they want.
