Hi All:

Has anyone had experience working/interning as a financial analyst for corporations not typically known for financial services (ie IBM, Lockheed Martin, Google, etc.)? If so, how are the hours and the work enivronment??

Look, you don’t even have your plumber’s license. How can you expect to break into finance?

I am currently interning for a major software company as a financial planning & analysis and the work is somewhat interesting. Hours are not bad, nothing can really compare to public accounting when it comes to working hours. However, I think it’s better to start your career in public accounting and move to private after gaining experience and obtaining your CPA.

If you work at a small firm or company that isn’t financial service related, your job can really be 9-5. You will be paid less but you will be more involved in other aspects of the company and you will have a better work life balance.

Places like IBM, Google, and big brands have longer work hours and you will be specialized if you work for their finance team.
