On the Harvard Supplement, I forgot to make a mention of my regional awards because I thought I had put them down already. So now I have a leadership position without any mention of my accomplishments. (I couldn't fit everything in to the supplemental non-academic awards section, so I totally forgot to put them down) Should I send them a note through the mail, or enclose a activit sheet to explain my ecs? Thanks.

Send an update with extra information via snail mail. They're flooded with emails at this time.

How reliable is the process through snail mail? do you think they'd actually make a mention of that on my app?

im really worried that the mail will get lost in the process...i need some advice from those who've been in the same situation before.

The college process did exist before the realm of modern technology. ;)

Well...I've been reconsidering my decision, and I think it would be better if I just talked about it during the interview instead of sending an update through mail. I think it'll be better if I don't appear too concerned with awards.. sounds like a good plan? the award isn't on a national level or anything, though it's one of the accomplishmentst that i have garnered for my ecs.

does anyone think that it's better to snailmail the admissions office about this or should i just talk about it in the interview?

Send them snailmail, but wait until the end of February or so. That way, you can send a big "update package" with anything else that may happen in the next two months (in one nice mailing, instead of all separately), at a time when they're not recieving quite as much mail. Interview is nice but you definitely can't assume the interviewer's fairly short report will make explicit mention of these awards. The interviewer is a conduit to the admissions office, not the admissions office in themselves so not everything you say will get back there. Good luck!!

I know I answered your PM, mpower, but I need to add that I agree with Guitar. Wait until the application thing has died down a bit, and then send all of your updates in together.

I would disagree with the timing of "end of Feb"--that's too late. I would take Byerly's suggestion and send your update(s) in a couple of weeks (just to get past the current file deluge). Definitely include those omitted awards...you will not seem too concerned about them...Harvard is most interested in your accomplishments. And I would send them by snail mail. My concern about sending them too late is that they might have already reviewed your ap and may not go back to it.

And FWIW, my son actually sent two updates during the EA period, as there were a number of things that occured at different times.

Donemom--I meant "in a couple of weeks or so". Completely ;)

Thanks for being so helpful guys...really appreciate it!

can you fax corrections on your essays? yea, they never emailed me back. other colleges did though: /

if ur an RD applicant. be very careful about sending in materials now...look at the date....theyll get very ****ed trying to go through files again just for you.

OK, here's a question. I'm one of the Intel STS semi-finalists and I figured I would wait until the end of the month to send them a brief update letter, including my STS results, some other stuff that's happened to me lately of note, and possibly (for H at least) an extra essay that I think helps my case. But my counselor has been telling me that I should let Harvard and the rest of my colleges know about STS now. I don't like the idea because I might have more to update on STS anyway (that is, I might make finalist in the next week and a half or so) and I'll be updating more later this month anyway and this is probably not the best time to inundate the office with mail. Any suggestions?

send it at the end of this month. I read somewhere a post from Byerly for deferrees saying u should send the update by the last week of January/first week of Feb.

Yeah, that's what I thought, thanks. The counselor told me yesterday that if I don't tell them now, he will (I expressed a bit of hesitation about updating this early with just the STS semis). Should I tell him that I'm not sending it and let the guidance office notify Harvard, or will this not be good either?

So confused. ~sigh~

I want to tell Harvard about my Intel STS results too...but maybe they'll just think me annoying.

GuitarManARS: I would let the guidance counselor do it...that's actually a great option, since it informs them while allowing you more time without being the one to send in so many additional things. Congratulations, btw! Also, I agree with waiting to see if you make finalist, since, frankly, I think they would assume you'd get this far based on your Seimens result. But, I'd be prepared with your other stuff ready to go, so that you can let them know as soon as possible if you do make finalist. Good luck!

i got a email back ><..so they do reply. concerning updates, i'd send mine asap...
