Cosep

Does anyon know anything about the COSEP program... how long is it? when is it? how do u get invited?

Don't know........

Cornell Over Stepping Every Program

care to explain the acronym?

Committee on Special Educational Projects

forgive me, but what does this group do? i'd rather hear it from you than to google it :)

COSEP is a summer program for the minority students. The summer program starts at the end of june and lasts for six weeks.
If you are selected for COSEP you will be sent a application along with your acceptance.

is it free?

It's kind of like HEOP. It's meant to help students succeed in Cornell. They accept students of a somewhat little lower caliber because they feel like these applicants have potential to do well! :). You have to spend 6 weeks in the summer taking some courses at Cornell to prepare for your entrance into Cornell.

i wanna be a minority...

Thats not true. COSEP stands for the Commitee on Special Educational Projects. It, along with the Office of Minority Affairs oversees all minority students on campus. The Prefreshman Summer Program (which is what the OP was refering to) is the 6 week program in the summer. Its is completely free (travel included) and they pay your summer savings expectation. Some people also receive a stipend on spending money as well. All PSP students take classes which they may or may not receive credit for. HEOP students are required to attend PSP but other students are randomly selected by their college. I know ppl who went to COSEP who came fromn very exclusive NE private schools. Whether or not you attend PSP, all minorities on campus are COSEP students: it has nothing to do with not being of a certain caliber. If you get invited you should definitely attend; its an excellent way to meet ppl before the school year starts.

i'm not cosep - and i'm a minority. wish i applied to HEOP/EOP, but oh well. you have to apply to be accepted into cosep - check out their webpage, they encourage ppl to APPLY AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. here, i just looked it up

How are students selected to participate in OMEA and COSEP services?
Eligible students may elect to participate in OMEA/COSEP in one of two ways:
1) New students can submit a response form that will be mailed to them before the fall semester
2) New and continuing students can come to the OMEA/COSEP office, located in 100 Barnes Hall, to register for participation. Important note: It is common for students to elect to submit a Response Form, and then forget that they have done so. It is also common for students not to realize that they are eligible for these services until their junior or senior years at Cornell, even though official verification of their COSEP status is mailed to them. To avoid these oversights, be sure to check in with the OMEA office early into your first semester at Cornell, so that you may begin to participate in and take advantage of these services as soon as possible.

You see... that's why I said kind of.

All underrepresented minorites can use the cosep office whether or not you are enrolled. I work in the cosep office and we have non enrolled students who come through everyday. However, you are right in that to cosep exclusive services such as work study, you do have to be enrolled. There is no application, you just fill out a postcard saying that you want to be included.
