How does someone get picked for this program?

You are selected by the particular college you were admitted to as 1 of X amount of students chosen by the college deemed deserving of it. I believe all students admitted that are in EOP and HEOP are automatically selected and required to take part of the program, but all students that are selected and not part of EOP and HEOP are optional, though the offer is so great I don’t see why someone would not take the offer. I was selected for the program and am not part of EOP or HEOP so it is optional for me but I immediatley accepted the offer, and should be in the program this summer.

Someone needs to create a facebook group for this ):

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the program. I personally got an invitation and couldn’t go, but I knew people who became very close friends from it.

Sorry for the bump, but did anyone else get into the program?

I was invited to the program

if you were invited to this program and you accept your offer, is it possible for cornell to deny you?

Everyone is not guarantee to go

so what is the criteria for selection? Are some applicants more likely than others?

@bigboy101 I have no idea what the criteria is. It’s probably those towards the lower 50% of the upcoming class, but that’s just a guess.

And to those that are going, what are you planning to bring? And are you looking forward to it?

i think it is for people who aren’t quite ready for college, ie. students who need some extra pre-study before freshman year to put them on par with the rest.

i think it is admissions officers who when admitting students select if an applicant would be needing to do the summer program, maybe the gpa is low as well as the SAT scores or something else that indicates the student would have a hard time starting college and would need some preparation. although there is no set criteria, officers choose students who have had weaker academic backgrounds or performances whom they believe would benefit from spending a summer preparing academically.

Actually after speaking to someone who is a part of admissions and the head of the program, it is quite the contrary for those that are invited but are not mandatory. For those that are mandatory, it may be due to the EOP and HEOP programs but it is also for those with the “lower stats” for the admitted class. For those that are invited and it is optional, they are chosen for being somewhat in the top of the applicant pool and are seen as those students who have more than stellar stats and will be able to take full advantage of this head start. If all the applicants chosen were in the bottom 50%, I’m sure they would make the program mandatory in order to avoid a high drop out rate and lower graduation rate. That is based off of what I was told
