Prefreshman Summer Program (PSP)

Does anyone have to go? I was told that I need to go. What does the program entail.

I do not understand , I have good grades and SAT scores.

What exactly is a Prefreshman Summer Program?

It requires that invited minorities and heop/eop students spend six weeks during the summer at Cornell. I know that its free and that its meant to prepare you for the fall.

I'm assuming you were accepted to Cornell under H/EOP? Anyways, like you said: students basically come to Cornell for six weeks of classes (nearly 7 weeks total) to help acclimate them to the rigors of college life. This year PSP will be housed at Carl Becker House. H/EOP students are required to attend and other students (not only minority students) can be invited to attend.

what happens if you cannot attend / don't want to attend?

i'm sorry....what is H/EOP? too lazy to search......

Can someone please explain further what it is? Why is there a summer program solely for minority students? Does minority include Asian/SouthAsian/MiddleEastern or only African/Hispanic? Can other people go as well?

Thing is I was not accepted through H/EOP. I am not complaining, just want to know why I was selected.

There is no point asking why you are selected. PSP is a great program...you will have lots of fun and importantly make many close friends! In addition your summer savings expectation of $2000 will be waived!

Four years ago, i was offered an option to go through the PSP program (it wasn't required for me), but i decided to go anyway, mainly because of the money incentive...but couple of weeks in the program, i began to love it!

"what happens if you cannot attend / don't want to attend?"

If you're required to attend and don't attend just because you "don't want to attend," then your admissions to Cornell will be revoked, as its conditional on successfully completing the program anyway. If you "can't" attend though, I'm not sure what would happen. Although I don't know under what circumstance someone absolutely could not attend.

I actually made a thread about this a while ago while I was freaking out the HEOP bc i was admitted in it too. But no worries, its realli good and yes it is required and there is no way out of the program.

^ will you be there for PSP 2008

I'm gonna be there for the summer, but not for PSP

^ cool, what program will you be participating in?

I'm gonna be workin at the statler and maybe try and take a FWS

wow! congrats. where will you be living?

I'm trying to find an off-campus sublet near north campus, but no luck so far. I'll probably end up living near collegetown

I'll be here for PSP...but I'll be a PA (kind of like an RA with an added academic component, fyi)

yup, Ill be at PSP. Im glad to know Im not the only freshman in this program so far :)

^ do you have facebook ? I want to start a group for future PSp 2008 students.
