Tsenguun, actually I'll be coming to NY on the 16th but it would've been cool if we were on the same flight.
Sapere, I've visited that page but some of the links are not working.
patlees88, I'm either doing that or going by cab.

Is there a taxi service (an actual cab - not the Ithaca airline limo) back to Syracuse airport from Cornell? Are the prices the same as those for the trips from the SYR airport to Ithaca (as in $100 or $160)?

has anyone here experienced a terrible flight to Ithaca, thru riding one of those small airplanes? IMO, these flights are scary as hell, being bumpy and all. I would fly to Syracuse and take the bus to Ithaca.

I was flying into Ithaca (from Philly perhaps?) and they informed us that they were unable to get the tail of the plane off the tail stand because the back was too heavy. So, they moved some of us sitting in the back up to the front and apparently that did the trick.

Would it be easy to find one or two - maybe two would be too crowded with luggage - cornell students at the airport in order to hire a cab together and split the fare? Assuming it runs to about 80 dollars a person, it seems like a better deal than the ithaca limo.

Patlees, was your bad experience on a turboprop or a small jet (canada air regional jet 50 seater)? I would be scared as hell too if it was a turboprop.

That is good to hear because I am flying up there on a small jet on my philly connection. This is my first time flying lol. I have heard my share of turboprop horror stories though.

Unfortunately, I had bad experiences with both a turboprop and a small jet. A small jet going from Philly to Ithaca, thru US Airways, was somewhat trubulent but not crazy. The turboprop I tried, once, it suddenly sunk for like 3 seconds in the air, which kinda felt like riding the Giant Drop in six flags. It is also noisy and bumpy as hell, I thought the plane was gonna crash. I would do the best to avoid direct flights to Ithaca as much as possible.

Just to say about the international aspect: all your customs etc is done at the airport you land at. this means you have to collect your bags and then check them in again. So I hope you have at least 2 hours in between flights. My admitttedly liited experience is that everything lands about half an hour later at JFK than scheduled. You then have to wait for your bags, go through customs and then get on the train to the next terminal and then check them in again (if you have more than an hour between then they will sometimes do this for you but less than an hour and you have to yourself). THis can be a nightmare,. however it means at Syrcause you don't clear customs. Your bags come out of the plane within minutes

CayugaRed, I believe the reason for not hearing about it is because there are so many less of them, and there are usually less fatalities due to being smaller planes and having less on board. From what I have heard they are much more likely to crash on any given flight than a jet though.

^^I am flying to ithaca 2 weeks from tomorrow with 2 connections (charlotte and philly) and have never flown before. At least none of them are on turboprops though...

I figured I might as well go straight to ithaca since it was cheaper than syracuse for some reason.

wait, how do you know what kind of plane ur gonna ride? Where does it show, when your ticketing, that the plane to ithaca is small jet and not turboprops? i would be very interested to know.

Dewdrop, my airport of origin is gainesville, fl and is also very small. Shouldn't take anytime to get through there at all.

patlees88, when ordering tickets online, it shows which plane you will be flying when you do your seat selection (if they tried to put me on a turboprop I would have chose a different flight). I am flying on a canada air regional jet from GNV to charlotte, and also from philly to ithaca. From charlotte to philly I am flying on an airbus a320. Thankfully on my return flight from newark I only have one connection. I am going on a 2 week vacation and will be going from ithaca to jersey right across the river with my aunt and uncle so I can check out NYC for a while before I return to FL.
