Cost of Attendance?

Below amounts are listed for 2010-2011 Academic year:

Cost of Attendance:

Budget Detail Budget Component Amount
Tuition $30,900.00
Fees $2,130.00
Room and Board $13,125.00
Books $1,950.00
Travel $850.00
Miscellaneous $3,000.00
Total: $51,955.00

A few questions:

Does everyone have the same estimated Cost of Attendance?

What are fees for?

Books...is this amount about right for Freshman year?

Travel...how can they estimate that...we know that is way off.

Misc...what is it exactly...that entertainment, clothing cost etc?

Does anyone have a better guesstimate of ACTUAL costs (excluding travel) or is this about right?

Thanks

heres a breakdown of the housing costs, meal plan costs, and fees costs…

As for the misc, I believe they give an estimate on what students may end up spending throughout the year on entertainment and other non school related expenses. I’m not sure where they come up with travel estimate, but its going to depend on the student. The estimated books cost is probably on the high side depending on your classes, most engineering and calculus books cost more than english textbooks.

The only stuff on that list that will actually be billed to you are tuition, fees, room and board. The rest is just there to give you an estimate as to the amount of money you may be spending throughout the school year.

Thanks Derek…can anyone tell me what $2000 in “fees” is for?

General Fee $1,490
Laboratory Fee $360
Student Activity Fee $250
Immunization Fee $35

Schools usually include the cost of the student health service and sometimes security in the General Fee

Dadinator…

Are these fees dependent on what classes a student is taking or for everyone?

General Fee $1,490
Laboratory Fee $360
Student Activity Fee $250
Immunization Fee $35
