Could a student with a low gpa get into UCSB?

My GPA sucks. It's a 3.2

UCSB, though, is my dream school and I've wanted to go there for a very long time. My SAT scores are pretty good (1940, but going to try to improve that). I also have received community service awards (356 hours) and have a long awesome list of extracurriculars, including an entire summer spent doing a program called AMIGOS DE LAS AMERICAS where I lived with another girl my age in a rural community in Mexico teaching classes/working with a women's group/painting a school/etc. I'm also athletic (probably not good enough to play at UCSB, but I do have JV/Varsity water polo experience).

I'm a second semester junior so I'm trying to raise up my GPA, I had a rough first semester and it REALLY messed up my grades.

Do you think I still have a chance of getting in?

EDIT: I also live in California

I've taken one AP test so far and gotten a 5, I've also taken one SAT 2 and got a 790

Probably . Maybe you can get recruited? Or your SATS can make up for it or good essays? You never know…Good luck!!! =)

Your 1940 is above UCSB’s average for enrolled students, so you’re good there. I would recommend trying to get it higher if you can to compensate for the gpa. The average gpa for enrolled students at UCSB was 3.91 last year (admitted was 4.08 or something). You’re quite a bit below that. It the 3.2 weighted or unweighted? How many APs are you taking? With the ECs, you may be able to pull it off. If not, many students I know say going to SBCC isnt much different than UCSB itself, and you could transfer after freshman year. I’m not saying in any way that you can’t get into a great school with your stats, but if you’re set on Santa Barbara that’s another way in.

What is your UC-GPA?

Closing, please post Chances threads on the What are my Chances? forum.
