I am thinking about going to Ole Miss in the fall, but I am a little worried that I would not fit in at all and would be unable to find any friends. This is mostly because of the stereotype that the school receives that everyone there is rich and stuck up. I plan on going into pharmacy so it would be smart for me to go there. I am also receiving a lot of money from the school, and I really like the campus. But it seems like you need to be rich and be in a fraternity or sorority to fit in at the school. Another problem is that I am gay. But it doesn’t really matter where I go to school in Mississippi, I will probably be ridiculed for that. So do you think I would like Ole Miss?
you will really like it. There is an LBGT chapter there. Greek is only 25%. Don’t listen to the stereotypes. My son is a sophomore from Ohio and never wants to leave Oxford. Great pharmacy program also.
When we visited twice, everyone was very personable and down to earth. There is always going to be something negative said about any university. Read all on this CC and u’ll get the feel that Ole Miss is a good school with good people.
My son is considering Ole Miss also (along with Kentucky and Miami)…we are from the Cleveland area (Aurora, OH). We are going to visit for the 1st time 2 weeks from today. Did your son feel it was easy to fit in there being from up North? Is there a lot of students there from up north? Thank you.
super easy. In his fraternity there are kids from Chicago, California, Ohio, Illinois, Florida etc. He will have no problem fitting in. We are from Upper Arlington. Miami is good if he wants to see all of his Aurora buddies from high school. Lexington is a bit rough. I graduated from I.U. Bloomington. He will get more money from Ole Miss. Come on down!
We are from CT. My son is seriously considering Ole Miss as well. I worry about him fitting in, but more on the thought process of what to do if he gets extremely home sick. We have family within 1.5 hours of the other three schools he is considering. We don’t know a soul in Mississippi.
every student gets homesick at any school briefly but it doesn’t last long. Ole Miss is small enough so he won’t feel overwhelmed. We talk to my son once a week. It is part of leaving the nest.
