I’ve always had good grades but unfortunately in sophomore I went downhill. The first semester i failed 3 classes, then the second semester i failed 5 classes!! I knew i had to improve, now im a junior in high school and my grades are ok. My gpa at the moment is at a 2.0. My question is will this affect me when i start applying to colleges?
Cumulative? As in, that’s the average of ALL of your grades?
You may want to start at a community college to show universities that you can do college-level work.
One more thing ,even if i get good grades in junior and senior year & bring up my gpa ,would you still recommend to start at a community college?
You apply for most colleges prior to Senior grades being posted. so many schools may consider only up to Junior year grades and could limit the type of schools in which again admittance. If you consider a CC and do well, you would have access to a better set of colleges.
At the time you would be applying to four-year colleges, you would not have any senior grades yet, and even getting all A’s both semesters junior year wouldn’t bring you up all that much (it’s a credit thing–your current GPA represents four semesters of work, and averaging two more into it can’t change it much).
Edit again: You can certainly try if you do the research and find some places with high acceptance rates and have the money to spend on application fees and the time to spend on essays and such. Definitely have CC as a backup though.
Thank you so much
Do you have to retake some of your classes? If so, I suggest you start at CC this summer. Talk with your guidance counselor. Putting forth effort and trying to redeem yourself goes a long way at some colleges. Good luck to you.
