This year I took the AP Human Geo. AP test, and I got a 2. I could not believe this, AT ALL!
I had studied so hard for the test and I felt very confident about my prac. test (which I got a 5)
I maintained a 106 average in the class and I was a very outgoing student and I had a great teacher
I felt somewhat 70%-80% about the MC, but I felt I DOMINATED the FRQs. I’m very good at FRQs, and I’ll
update if I made a good mark on the FRQs (I live in Texas, and the guidelines aren’t released yet)
I’m considering different routes on how to approach this problem:
Plan A: Challenge the score and hope that it is at least a 4-5
Plan B: If the score stands, I’m going to go to my local community college to
self-study AP Human Geo. and take different approaches to the mindset of the
test (this was my first AP test, and I’m a freshmen --> sophomore)
Then, I’ll take the test again.
Plan C: Try to obtain my FRQ to see how my essays compared to the ‘reading’ of experienced ‘teachers’
And see how they graded my essays so that if I did do bad, I’ll know how to approach that part of the test
Plan D: If the score changes, question the authenticity of how my test was graded in the first place.
Plan E: Man up and move on.
Plan F: Accept that maybe I just screwed up and I had a bad day…and a bad test grade…
I know that 99.9% of the time people that get their tests re-graded end up wasting money, get crestfallen about their failure and don’t actually get their grade changed. But hey, there are always possibilities, right? Hopefully a part of my test was left out in the grading process and it saves my grade and my confidence. Seriously please tell me how you guys would approach this… thanks a million!!!
There is no “challenge the score.” You can pay $30 to get a rescore of the MC, but that is unlikely to move you from a 2 to a 4-5. There is no regrade on the FRQ, so even if you got the booklet back, it’s little more than a souvenir.
You’re never provided a score breakdown. You can use the guidelines to have a teacher grade you, but that’s not official.
Go with Plan E. I’m assuming you have some challenging classes for next year. Focus on those and don’t rehash the past.
You could try calling Collegeboard and asking if their whole test was considered. I didn’t look at that Rescore Success Stories thread that well, but apparently for some people that worked for them.
I think if you were really confident about the test, you should go for a rescore. It wouldn’t really hurt you, besides the monetary cost.
I personally wouldn’t self-study AP Human Geo again. I don’t know if next year you’ll be taking more APs, but it’ll probably be more effective if you focused your energy on those future APs to get good scores rather than adding Human Geo to the mix.
Plan E/F. Everybody has bad days and good days.
I remember for AP Comp Sci, I felt that I aced the FRQ’s, finished in like 20 minutes (when I think an hour 40 was given to us). I checked like 20 times before I fell asleep.
Couple days later, I go online and realize I completely messed up like 3 FRQ’s, won’t say what I got on the exam but yeah was VERY unexpected considering how confident I was when I turned in the AP test booklet.
Dude I got a 3 and I thought I did SOOO well on the AP Human exam… Many of my other friends got 4’s and 5’s yet they barely studied and when we were quizing ourselves and practicing for the exams I performed much better than they did…
I got a 2 as well and felt very confident. Perhaps the curve was extremely high? I’m thinking of rescoring and I think that it’s worth it if it means I won’t be left wondering if it was accurate. Best of luck to you!
