I’m considering retaking the SAT in November to improve my writing score.
But I’m not sure that my score will get better. I studied for the SAT last year but only improved my essay score one point from my first practice test. However, there still is a chance that I could really improve it if I focus on my essay. My math and reading scores may go down though because I won’t have time to study for them. If I score lower my second SAT attempt will that negatively affect my college prospects? I’ve heard of superscoring, but I’m a little confused about how that works and how many colleges superscore.
As is the case with most things in life, It depends. Many schools superscore which won’t hurt you. For a superscore you send all the test scores and they use the highest of each. BTW, the writing score is generally the one least considered.
Usually, colleges just look at your highest scores overall (even if they don’t superscore, they care most about the best test date). Go ahead with the November exam, if you have time to study at least for writing.
