At university view, the apartments are rented out in rooms. so a four bedroom with four baths is 800 something per person from what I saw

That’s great to hear! I also was interested to take Fresh. Connect. but most say they feel disconnected and most say its fun while it lasts…

also some advice to help you pick between penn state and umd : I heard that penn state is really good in astronomy and physics. so if that’s what you want to do, go there.

$250 per person LOL.

The View is $900+ per person. 800 is def on the low side, you will be paying more like 900 trust me.

It’s a major rip off…and it used to be that freshmen weren’t allowed to stay there but maybe they removed that restriction now that they are building all of the new buildings. Should call and ask. Maybe they’ll also be forced to lower the price if they can’t fill the buildings at 900 a pop!!!

Yea dam that is ridiculous. Anyone have better options?

Does anyone know if we can sign-up for TerpNet? I’m probably not going, but a bunch of my friends who got in for fall were talking about how cool it is and I’m kind of curious…

yea we can sign up for terpnet, i already did haha

Oh good!

except I created an account on Ning and I can’t find the network…

NEVERMIND. I found it!

I have been speaking with a lovely girl named Cori at the University View Apartments. Not only is she very helpful, she also attended the FC and lived at the View apartments for her Freshman year. She emailed me today and to tell me that the management of the View are trying to dedicate an entire floor in their new apt. building the View II to FC students. Thought this might interest some of you out there that are investigating this arrangement.

That would be perfect. It all comes down to money for me though. But yeah, very interesting.

Oh, and does anyone want to share their contact info for TerpNet? PM or just post on the forum if you don’t mind putting that on the internet.

I’m having wayy to much fun with TerpNet.

@CaptHammer, I’m about to add you… I think. I’m Nicole.

Yep, that’s me. Congrats lol, I’m impressed you found me.

For everyone else, I’m Joshua Souders and I’m also in the Spring Terps group.

just added you

This seems remarkably similar to Facebook…

And I’d just like to point out, this individual thread on the College Confidential forum, that probably only applies to about 1,500 people (estimate number of Spring admits) has more views than there are members of TerpNet. About 5 times more views. Which is sort of sad.

Back on topic, for anyone reading this, JOIN TERPNET. Then join the “Spring Terps” group. Especially if you plan on doing Freshman Connection and need to coordinate roommates. Right now there’s 7 members, including “Testudo”. Spring admission sucks, but it’ll suck even more if people don’t have a central place to coordinate housing for the Fall semester. So yeah. Do that. Plus, TerpNet is fun as hell.

When do the official packets come? I want me my magnet.

Oh, and the information in the packet too. I’ll take that as well. But only as long as it comes with a magnet.

What can I say? I’m a really good creeper? I really don’t know… thanks.

I want my packet/magnet too! Probably won’t come out until next week, though? UMCP has been closed all week.

S is a sophomore at UMD and was originally admitted for the Spring term 2009 through the Freshman Connection program. D applied this year and was also offered the Freshman Connection program in lieu of a fall admit.

S’s instant reaction was, “DON’T DO IT!”

When asked why, he said that Freshman Connection students have two semesters of adjustment to contend with, rather than one, as the fall admits have.

Also, for the fall semester, he lived at home and didn’t really feel like he was part of the university. He felt like he missed out on a lot by not being able to live in the dorm.

Then, in the spring semester, when he finally got a dorm room, he had to ajust to living on campus and being a new guy on the hall. When he went to live on campus, he found that the students on his hall were mainly sophomores and they had settled into a routine from the fall semester and were busy doing their thing. They weren’t unfriendly to him and he did get invites to some things, but on the whole, he felt like he never really quite found his footing or fit in. He was also put into a small triple room with two other Freshmen Connection students. One hung out with his girl friend most of the time in her dorm. The other rushed a frat and wasn’t around. His experience was an unlucky draw, but unlucky draws are as much of a reality of the Freshman Connection program as lucky draws.

Add to that, he didn’t do well enough academically to be admitted into the Smith School of Business. The program is very competitive and the people who were admitted when he applied had well over the 3.0 minimum GPA.

On the plus side for the program, he found that, while Freshman Connection students aren’t offered as many different courses as other freshmen, there were offered a fairly good variety, and he was able to take some courses that were interesting. His professors were good.

Now as a sophomore, he has happily settled into a new dorm and has a great group of suitemates and friends. S is majoring in economics and finds the course work interesting.

Life is good, but if he had it to do all over again, because freshman year was such a rough experience for him, he would have selected another university.

Hey do you guys remember when there was a post about doing freshman first and then getting fall admission? Did anyone actually contact the undergrad office and ask if that was an option?

ljb96 – thanks for your perspective again. i’m really back and forth over this whole thing.

did anyone else just get an acceptance email? weird… a little late?

yeah that was pretty late. that video was pretty cool though, it made me want to be a fall admit I know that being spring is not that bad, but my friend is a spring admit and she tells me everyone has already found their own friends and its harder for her to make friends. and she was put in La Plata (which is the air con. heating dorm) and she thought she would be happy there but most of the people are sophomores and are doing their own thing. And, it’s true that people don’t care if you are a spring-er, but they wont walk up to you and say Hi. You are on your own in spring, and it is difficult. That’s why I am considering Freshman Connection so that I can meet people there and make friends in that program, and once spring comes along, we can room together and have fun…IDK, im trying to find out how to be a fall admit but its just so hard!

Yeah, I’m going back and forth now as well. Maryland is such a better school than anywhere else I applied, but the two transition periods and living at home for another semester perhaps and missing out on my first semester at college…I don’t know. I’m back to thinking that I would have been happier if Maryland just would have denied me application just so that no matter what I do I wouldn’t have to second guess myself. If I can find somewhere cheap and close to room for Freshman Connection though that would probably do it for me.

Yeah, I just got the acceptance email. Weird. I haven’t watched the video, but still. It would have made sense to send that two weeks ago. It’s sort of nice to know that they haven’t forgotten about us though.

Did anyone ask about Freshman First? If no one has then I’ll send an email and post the results here.
