Could Someone please explain this to me about Freshman connection program?

No problem. I’m just trying to explain that it’s not as bad as it seems…yes, the situation isn’t desirable but IF YOU LIKE UMD ENOUGH then you’ll make the most of it. Better later than never or never than later? Just make the best of it. I did and it couldn’t have worked out better. :)

I’m not sure about the waitlist for fall. I believe the thing is if you’re on the fall waitlist they will tell you in your acceptance letter.

Thank you goodday91

It’s improved my mood a bit to know I won’t be shunned or anything for being a Spring Admit…^^

^That’s what I thought since not everyone who gets accepted decides to go. Now if your letter said spring admission with the freshman connection program, does that automatically place you on the fall waitlist? Or is that a whole different letter?

If you’re on the waitlist it should have said so on the decision page. This was mine,

Thank you for your application for admission to the University of Maryland. While we cannot offer you admission for the Fall 2010 semester, we are impressed with all you have accomplished and we are pleased to offer you admission for the Spring 2011 semester which begins in January. In addition, you have been given a place on our waitlist for the Fall 2010.

If I’m on the waitlist does this mean I have a higher chance of getting on the waitlist because I’m already accepted halfway?

shunned? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Remember, there are also transfer students from other colleges coming into the spring! All the more reason for nobody to care that you’re a spring admit. Yeah, it kinda hurts, but you’ll move past it. :stuck_out_tongue: At least we like you enough to let you in! :)

Don’t most Maryland community colleges have articulation agreements that will ensure one’s CC credits transfer to UMD (if not a specific program)?

We had an intern who was hoping to get into UMD/Smith coming from a community college with a 3.2 – got into UMD, but not Smith.

Hmmm not quite sure about the articulation agreements thing. While picking classes at aacc I just looked at umd’s transfer-credit website to see which classes would transfer with what grades. All of my grades transferred through smoothly; all you have to do is have your cc mail umd your final transcript.

I didn’t actually read my admissions thing, I just saw “admitted Spring 2011” and I ignored the rest. I should go read for the waitlist thing…

I didn’t even get wait listed for Fall 2010…this is so stupid. Here are my stats…I know people with less than I got in reg. admiss.

SAT: 1890
ACT: 29
UWGPA: 3.55 (I know it’s low, but there is a high upward trend)
WGPA: 4.0

of AP’s: 9

Excellent job my senior year, good EC’s
Asian, Male, MD Resident

Could anyone else that got pseudo-rejected post their stats?

SAT: 1390/2110
WGPA: 3.11 (this is what killed me I think)

AP: 4

Honors: 4 (my nonhonors classes over the past two years should have been honors, they were really hard)

SIGNIFICANT upwards trend (started at 2.67 with no AP’s or honors freshman/sophomore year)
Great job over the past 2 years
EC’s are amazing
White, male, MD resident
Crazy tough private school

WGPA: 3.8
AP: 7
White Female MD resident
ACT: 27

Not even on the waitlist for fall.

Reading some of the stats of kids who got accepted on this forum is ****ing me off, lol.

I got accepted to WPI, so I might go there. Waiting on a decisions from Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Towson

I would probably go if I got in reg admission, but now I seriously don’t want to. This Fall/Spring decision system CP has is so random it feels like.

Waitlist for fall…meaning Spring Admittance instead of the waitlist?

apparently some go spring admissions and a wait list spot. I did not get a waitlist spot.

Oh, neither did I then. >.< I wonder why?

My WGPA is a 4.175
AP Classes: 6
All other HS courses were Honors unless not offered at my school (like health and gym)
White Female
MD Resident
SAT - 1130 (CR and Math)

I didn’t get a waitlist spot either. Spring only.

3.1/3.8
9 aps/21 honors classes
3 years varsity cross country
1340/2010 sat
other stuff I don’t feel like listing right now

I am really frustrated…

I got wait listed for fall with spring admit

weighted GPA: 3.68 (upward trend)
7 APs beginning in sophomore year
SAT- 1290/1980
ECs: National Honor Society, Key Club, SPCA volunteering, Varsity tennis (captain senior year, though it wasn’t on my app)
I go to a half-day competitive-admission magnet school (Governor’s School) for science/math, through which i did an internship at a local architecture firm this past month
white, female VA resident

I’m starting to get a clearer picture of why all of these well-qualified people didn’t get in regular admissions or got flat-out rejected…

I’m guessing because UMD is such a huge college, they simply don’t look at applications that don’t pass a certain line (for example, a 3.6 GPA)

^ If that’s the case why the hell did I bother taking 9 aps? I could’ve taken cooking classes and bs’d a 4.0 This is such crap.

Clearly they don’t care how many aps or honors classes you took to challenge yourself. Some of my friends with 0 aps but a 3.7 got into a lep. I can almost guarantee that by taking just normal classes I could’ve pulled out a 3.6 at least. Way to totally lie about that “holistic process” Maryland.

misterpop92, I’m with you again. I worked my butt off in 7 APs, and not the easy ones either-no Human geography.
