I’ve got 2 friends who got in with minimal AP’s/honors, average SAT, and high GPA. It’s really not a fair system.

My school puts out a program that shows all the data from our school about who got accepted or denied or spring admitted. Green squares are admitted, diamonds are spring admission, and x’s are rejections. I’m the circle. The circle that should be a ****ing diamond.

^ I have that too and I’m a good 2-3 cm clear from any X on the graph. I have 9 green squares circled around where I’m supposed to be…a big fat blue diamond. Gawd this has me so ****ed off.

WHAT?! I didn’t even get a waitlist spot either… I thought that a spring admit was basically a waitlist.

3.57UW/3.93W. upward trend.
1910/2400 SAT
28 ACT
5 APs
instate. ton of legacy.

we’re all qualified. this is the dumbest thing that has ever happened to me. i can’t help but think it was just some random,
cruel thing. screw umd. let’s all go to other schools, do fantastic, and get great job or go to top grad/law/med school.

my friend with a 1500/2400 got in. ***.

(to be fair, another friend with a 2070 got straight up rejected)

Guys, I empathize with you dissapointment. I wish u the best and leave u with this: Einstein once said, “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.”

Common guys this is not the only school you applied to, right. You must have other choices besides community college (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

I’m in other schools, Maryland is just my top choice. By far. I’d rather go to a semester at community college than go to a different school altogether.

I wish they wrote up a paragraph explaining why you didn’t get in fall semester.

UMD was the only college I applied to because my parents refused to pay for any more applications. They thought I’d get in, 100%. >_>" I’ll just do their silly program…I’ve got nothing better to do, aside from being a bum with no health insurance…>.<" Or I could go to community college and transfer, but my community college doesn’t really have any classes for what I had hoped to major in…>.<

CaptHammer - That might be in the letter they send. You’ll just have it wait a little while longer for it, perhaps?

^ No, we’re definitely doing that. Everyone call at 4:29 pm Monday, 1 minute before their offices close and just start ranting as long as possible. They can’t go home for dinner if they have an angry mob on the phone.

We can’t really blame THEM. They do get a crap-ton of applications each year, and have to pick and choose which ones to accept, deny, etc…Asking genuine questions is one thing, but I don’t really think we should go out of our way to hassle them.

Sit down in the admissions office and refuse to leave until you’re admitted fall semester.

“I can wait here all night, all you have to do is just go in that database and switch one name.”

Also, as a potential computer science major, if I cracked their database and changed my admissions decision to fall semester, wouldn’t that mean that I’m obviously smart enough to go to UMD? JUST KIDDING. But I wish that was an actual policy. Haha.

On a side note, I’ve been talking to a friend irl who did the fc program. What I’ve been hearing doesn’t sound so bad actually. He found 3-4 people to share a rent with off campus, then moved into the dorms for the spring. The transition was fine for him. He was able to get most of his required core done while also having time to do the things he wanted. There was no social or academic barrier between the switch for him. He made new friends fast and was able to join many activities/parties etc. He was able to switch into electrical engineering for sophomore year and is now graduating along everyone else with a 3.77 gpa to boot. Doesn’t sound so bad to me man.

Does FC help you with housing at all? Because housing is the only thing holding me back. As an 18 year old I tend to think of myself as fairly independent, but I’ll admit that with this sort of thing I would prefer a little help.

You can get advising from the housing department about where some good places are but they won’t do it for you. It’s much easier to rent with a group of friends, cheaper too. I’m not an expert at this though. Better to call them and ask about it. Like I said, 4:29pm Monday…haha
