I think UCSC is a good match for you. You should also apply to Cal Poly SLO.

ya! put it as ur safety. =]

aww, thanks guys!

collegemom16, you really think i could get into Cal Poly SLO? because that would be awesome!

It would be helpful if you posted your UC weighted GPA and something about your courseload. Your EC's and awards show a strong interest and talent for writing; if you can make yourself stand out a bit by bringing your SAT Writing (which is already strong) up into the 700's (I'll bet you can--look at your essay online and compare it to the CB's stated criteria) and bring the CR up too, I think you're in the running at any of the UC's, as well as Cal Poly SLO. (Of course, it wouldn't hurt to bring up the Math too, but I think a lower math score would be forgiven in your case if it outshined by your other scores, particularly if you've struggled in math classes, provided you're not planning to major in math or engineering.)

I'll find out my UC weighted GPA. I'm not sure what it is right now.

As for courseload, I did really well (4.0) in 9th grade because I had all regular courses (except for Honors English), but then my grades dropped because sophomore year i took two honors and an ap (the hardest courseload i could), and junior year i did 3 ap's and an honors (Then yearbook and spanish 7-8). i have always taken advanced english clases and always gotten a's in them. will this also help show my interest/talent for writing?

i'll definitely bring up my SAT writing (and other sections); i didn't study for my SAT's the first time around, so next time i will. :)

when you say any of the UC's, do you mean UCLA and UCB as well? because i never thought i had a chance at either of those.

and yeah, i'm not majoring in math/engineering, so hopefully they'll forgive my poor grades/SAT scores in math.

If you are in the top 10% of your public hs graduating class, "ELC", then you may want to consider applying to UCLA & UCB-as they are holistic in their application review.otherwise... You know how strong your stats are vis-a-vis other applicants for UCLA & UCB-so no need to review here on this site. UCSC has gotten tougher to get into the last couple of years-so, you might want to include a couple of other UCs in the mix for true safeties. You have worked hard-and deserve a pat on the back. It is just that the application process is tough this year-so-as long as you realize that you will have viable options come this December.G'Luck!
