What is your view of the claim that knowing facts isnt as important as understanding ideas and concepts.

Since the existence of humanity, there are only two radical concepts that solely motivates humanity: knowing and knowing more. The interminable pursue of knowledge always exists because obtaining knowledge is the one and only way of understanding universe. Even though imagination and theory sometimes present themselves as the counterexamples of logical knowledge, they are merely the first steps of knowledge.

Even though pursue of knowledge can be grounded to first creation of the human being, modern life likewise contains many anecdotes of individuals in pursue of understanding. To illustrate an occasion I can give an personal example: the loss of my Grandfather. Last year i lost my grandfather and i was obliged the explain this painful event to my 5 year old cousin. I tried many ways for this explanation. Told her that our grandfather was gone to a long sleep, gone to an protracted journey and yet more gone to mere darkness. Whatever or however I tried to explain this situation she couldt fathom it and asked me How?, Why? The indispensable questions of humanity. After some time she realized the fact that her Grandfather was not around anymore and finally she understood the concept of passing away, in her own terms. Last month when she lost his dog, the very concept of dying was very clear to her because she learned that knowledge through her experiences.

Literature the ornate version of human lives, also presents us compelling examples. One of which is the Arthur Millers famous play The Crucible that includes many themes as well as interaction of knowledge and imagination. The play sets in 1800s America in the town Salem where religion is the only power which can explain daily life events and shape them with strict rules. Thus purist society of Salem lives only with the knowledge that holy bible suggests them. The society has no understanding of daily pleasures or desires. Thats why when society faces with the situation of young girls of village :Abigail, Mary, Tituba dancing naked in the forest. They can only find one reason with their corrupted and ill-fed imagination: witch craft. Their lack of understanding and knowledge towards human nature causes their imagination to take control of their actions and enkindles the cruel witch-hunt. If they had the knowledge or experience towards these kind of actions, emotions the events of play could have been shaped completely differently.

Even though we say knowledge overpowers imagination and theories, we cant strictly refute the very idea of emotions adoe snlaying of human nature, Picasso the well known painter uses his paintings to understand the world, he doesnt search through books for his self discovery, he uses his imagination to know himself. In this case we can say his imagination helps his understanding of concepts but we know that imagination is just a way that lead one to knowledge. Knowledge shouldnt be perceived as strictly logical and related with reasoning, various ways of knowing covers many rational and imaginative concepts.
