My son is flying out tomorrow for accepted student days....I forgot to send in the card so he has no dorm room to bunk down on for Friday night...So frustrating that I forgot to do that. I should have assigned that one to my son!

Are any of you willing to host a nice guy, non-drinker, mathy science student?

Otherwise, I should book him a hotel room today.

If your son is signed up to attend Accepted Students’ Days, but you forgot the card, what you need to do is call the Admissions Office (507.222.4190 or 800.995.CARL) NOW and explain the situation. They would much prefer that your son has a room on campus, and will likely make every attempt to arrange a host. ASD is a big deal for students, and tons of people sign up to host, so I would guess that if you let them know about the problem as soon as possible they will be able to make arrangements. Staying in a hotel off-campus isn’t really the Carleton experience, which is the whole point of ASD. If you have any other questions, definitely contact the admissions office. They are really nice and helpful.

dudefromnowhere: My son was told to NOT enjoy the Friday dinner event because there is not any room. what other events are there that you will be enjoying? Are you staying on campus?

Shelldemeo, there are a ton of students coming for ASD (about 50 more than last weekend - they could barely find enough hosts as is), and therefore not everyone can be accommodated for the welcome dinner event. Students can still come on campus for tours, info sessions, and class visits :)

I see that the weather is not going to be so great this weekend. I really hope that doesn’t put people off. My kid’s visit last year on admitted students’ days was really colored by the persistent rain, but he’s glad that didn’t determine his decision in the end! Go to Carleton College’s official Facebook page and check out the beautiful spring photos taken by Marlena (a Carleton admissions blogger and an excellent photographer) and know that during April it has been warmer and sunnier in Northfield than where I live in southern New England! Look for Carleton College photos on flickr–lots of sunny days! And if there’s cloud cover the whole time, know that the stars are much easier to see at Carleton than in the northeast! Carleton’s observatory has an open house the first Friday each month, when it’s clear. It’s a beautiful building, too (might be of interest to someone interested in physics).
