Counseling???

I was wondering which of these schools has the best Pre-Med Counseling..Which one has the best advisers that could help one get into a really good med school after undergrad??? I know it depends on me to do ecs, get good grades and ace the MCATs but if I do exceed at them, which one would assist me tremendously in getting in a really good med school??

Case Western Reserve University (Accepted)
University of Washington (Accepted)
UCLA
UC Berkeley
UCSD
UPenn
Wash U. in St. Louis
Hopkins

The UC's are all terrible for advising. Berkeley doesn't even have an office at all. Don't know anything about UW. The privates should all be fine.

I've never heard anybody complaining about pre-med advising at my school (Case Western).

I am a bio major here, so I can tell you that you will get a very extensive background in biology, which i'm sure is useful for the MCAT. We have three core biology courses, rather than the usual two, which to me is quite useful is grasping all of the different concepts/biological fields.

I can't really say anything about other places, although I do know WUSTL is popular for premeds.

Hey CaseSpartan10, As you go to Case, can you tell me how is Case Western as a school?? I have heard it gives lot of "useless" work, and you can't have a social life.. Is it true by any chance??

I'd like to know more about Case as well.

I applied before thanksgiving and I still haven't heard back from them. Can you share any info you have about the school?

Thanks.

BDM, are the UCs bad for advising b/c they're such large schools? or is it more of the public vs. private aspect? (or both)
i know UCD has a decent advising office, and UCSD's revelle is known for getting ppl into med school

BDM didn't attend a UC :)

My experiences so far with UCD's premed advising has been really positive so far. That doesn't really have anything to do with the OP, though.

For anybody that was interested-

I actually have a great social life at Case. I go out to parties every weekend, usually at a fraternity. I myself am not involved in the greek system, but it certainly helps out your social life if you have friends that are- Its pretty easy since roughly 30% of males at Case are in a fraternity. As I said before, i'm a bio major and have maintained a high GPA thus far, one that med schools definitely wouldn't frown at. Also, i'll mention that I used to be pre-med (decided research was the route for me), so I have taken the exact same courses as all the premed students.

Certain areas around the campus are not the greatest (this is Cleveland)- but Case is located in university circle, which is a pretty cool area with a lot of social and academic opportunities. When my friends and I wanted a break during finals, we would go over to one of the museums (there's natural history, art, automobile, botanical gardens). A lot of (premed) students volunteer in the Cleveland clinic, and i'm currently doing biological research in Case school of medicine.

As for the workload-
I would be lying if I said it was easy at Case, especially as a science student, but it is definitely doable. Some students do end up hiding out in their dorms so that they can complete their work- but I don't think anybody who has a least some natural academic ability has to do that- I think it helped me out alot to find friends that are serious about school, yet refuse to let it take over their social lives.

That's about all I can think of for right now, but if you all have any more specific questions, i'd be happy to answer them (thru this thread or PM)
