Hello everyone!

I won't lie, my grades during my high school years weren't very good since I didn't take school every seriously at that time. After taking some time off after graduation, I came back to my local CC with a passion for science. I started taking classes last year and have been able to maintain a ~3.5 average. My plan is to sign the transfer agreement with one of the UCs this fall (2014) as a backup and apply to other schools as well, with the goal to start in the fall of 2015. And since I have extra time (I've heard that I can even take classes up until summer 2015, before I would start at an university?), I have the opportunity to pull up my GPA more.

However, during my meeting with a counselor today (first time meeting her), she said if I wanted to major in physics (my main choice because of my fascination with it, I do want to apply for medical school in the future and some have told me physics is actually a good major for it? Any comments and advice on this will be very much so appreciated as well), biology, or any science related major, I would have to spend another 2-3 years at the CC. Which was really odd to me because my previous meeting with a different counselor said otherwise.

The first counselor I met with said that I should consider apply/transferring with an undeclared major (and she said I would probably end up with a major like Arts, Literature or Physiology if I chose to do so), meanwhile, take science and math classes that would fulfill the minimum requirement to change to my choice of major. Obviously, that would take up some extra time and possibly the equivalent amount of time that I would if I was to stay at my local CC and transfer directly into the physics/bio/other since science majors. And I do understand transferring to a major in a different department can be very difficult and sometimes even unachievable.

I would rather spend the extra time at an university rather than my local CC is what I am saying, so maybe I'm just inpatient and even a bit eager.

I would love some feedback on this. Were you a undeclared transfer student, or do you know someone who is? How difficult is it to change majors? Is it doable?

Thank you all so much in advance for your time and advice.
