Well, at least DPS has counsellors!
Agree with gary that USIEF can be pretty unhelpful. From what I could tell, the counselor there passed on the information/college choices of one candidate to others with similiar stats…

lol
I guess when it comes to Counselors everyone of us is unsatisfied!
But at least we all have CC!

P.S. Sushmita I infer that your school doesn’t have one then who filled all the counselor forms??

Nope. My class teacher was the one who filled the counselor forms.

hmm…come to think of it I think my class teacher would write a better rec than my counselor but I am already taking one from her! :)

If you have time at your disposal to figure out your future and understand the nuances of the US college application process, this website has more than enough information to satisfy all your needs.

However, if you are not free (like you need to attend entrances exam tutorials for AIEEE IITJEE CLAT PMT etc, you have sporting commitments or you just dont have the time)then go to a counselor. He/she will point you in the right direction, give you ALL the information you could possibly want and will make college applications a LOT less of a burden for you. In Delhi, I also recommend Arjun Seth he’s pretty good. But his fees are a little on the steep side. Send me a PM if you need his details.

Personally speaking, this website was all that I needed. And guess what, with the help that I found here, I increased my SAT score by 200 points, I’ve managed to get an amazing financial aid package from a school that fits my interests perfectly and I even managed to make new friends.

Getting a counselor just depends on how involved you can/want to be in the US College application process. I would suggest that you go through the application process alone. The amount that you can learn and grow is just amazing.

Best of luck.

Also, if you’re doing JEE/PMT coaching, chances are you might not be the verrrrry well off types, so its better if you don’t ‘buy’ a counselor.

Haha, gary that is ridiculous! Rich guys are in IIT too.

And I am not applying to JEE/PMT. I am neither interested in Med nor in frying my brain and feeding it to chickens! :)

Gary, where did you get that from?
I personally know many rich people aiming for the IIT’s and some not those well off types buying counsellors and applying to the US.

Gary that was ridiculous! :

What I meant was, most of those who apply ONLY to the US are richer than the average SERIOUS JEE coaching kid who’s dreaming of applying to the US too. Obviously, there are a lot of rich people who do both. But the fact is, if you need ~full aid, you’re more likely to try and make sure that IIT is safe first, and not rely as much on American universities to turn lucky.

Oh, yes. Obviously :)

I would suggest people who are not very familiar with the admission procedure to go for a counselor. One of my friends advised me to take counseling from Arjun Seth.
School counselors can be a real pain. Especially when ur talking of DPS RKP. So it is better you take external help.
Arjun was really helpful in making me put together everything on time. But the greatest help was with the writing part. We went through a lot of brainstorming sessions to figure out the topics for my essays and the right colleges for me. The cost can be a little too much but when ur over with the process, u see that it was worth it. The best part is, he only advises you at each step, the final decision is urs. I have heard a lot of counselors write the essays for their students, which is one thing Arjun would never do. He lets you put forth your own voice and express your opinion in your own way so that the college knows exactly who you are. He actually helps you to find the right fit for you.

From experience, I would say Do not, under any circumstances talk to the DPS MRD college counselor. She’s such a moron, that she was actually asking everyone in my school (who was applying to schools in the states) to recommend colleges for her PG studies.

I would definitely recommend Arjun Seth and his colleague Prab (in Bangalore) Even after you send off your applications/receive replies - they organize events on college transitions, to help you get used to the big change.

Two first posts with counselor recommendations? Thanks, but no thanks.

lol! I didn’t notice that! ROFL…thanks but ya no thanks!! I have CC for now! :)

Great observation, blue_box!

$50 those posts were written from the desk of Mr. Arjun Seth.

HAHAHA, that was the first thing that came to my mind too :P

:)

Must be one of his assistants or something… :P

Is it just me or is the thread title location wrong?

It should be Delphi*, not Delhi, like in Oedipus the King
