Every single year of high school I have had a different counselor. And now, as a rising senior, I am moving schools. I am aware that counselor recommendations are supposed to compare you to the other students and the rigor of your course work, but my place in the student body will be much different than at my other school since I am moving from a very small school where I was an impressive student to a very large one where I will hardly stand out. Do I have to get my recommendation from my senior year counselor since it is from the school i’m graduating from? My junior year counselor knows me better and since I spent 3 years at my other school, should I get my recommendation from her instead? Do I even have a choice? Is there a way I can have both of them so college admission people can see how I compare to the student bodies at both schools?
Generally the counselor report comes from your current counselor, regardless of circumstance. Of course there is no reason you could n’t have your old GC write a letter of recommendation. Go in to see your new counselor and talk about your concern. They can call your old counselor and hear what they have to say about you and go from there.
