Counselor threatening to get me rescinded from UCLA :(

I think I had 3 classes listed for the second semester, and I explained in the additional info section that it was really a year-long class that finished after 1 semester (because of the quarter system). I also ended up telling them that I switched out of one of the other classes and replaced it with a class at SMC. So I had 1 HS Class and 1 CC class (which is basically accurate).

omgstfu. enjoy senior year.

omgstfu. i am. )':

equinebeing’s advice is solid fiore.

First and foremost contact UCLA admissions. They will have the correct advice and final say over that power tripping sleaze bag.

I personally would tell my principal that she was threatening and harassing you. It is extremely immature and definitely unprofessional for a faculty/staff to insult a student ( calling you lazy ). Anyone else feel this is borderline blackmail/coercion? At this point, if I got confirmation from UCLA that she cannot do anything, I’d try my darndest to get this person FIRED with prejudice. That story about not sending in transcripts reminds me of that one inept counselor from the movie Orange County. Grats on your UCLA acceptance, still have another month before transfer decisions come out :[.

You already told UCLA that you were taking four courses, so if that counselor lady calls, isn’t it kinda repetitive information that they won’t care about?

counselor bizznatch: but she only has four courses!
ucla: we know…she told us on her application
counselor bizznatch: but im a lame old bitter person! i think that
*dialtoneeeeeee

I bet there’s part of the story not being told here.

i got accepted to ucla and i have four classes senior year at my high school. i don’t think ucla cares, it’s just the high school that decides the min. amount of classes you have to take. but yeah, at my school the glc’s are saying 5 classes. so… i’m currently taking a college class to fill that spot.

but first semester, i only wrote 4 classes. ucla doesn’t care. so you shouldn’t either! :)

I did some sharpshooting as a cadet; I could probably pick her off from 500 meters away.

I, for one, also have a bad counselor. She will put herself in a position that directly locks horns with you. Your solution on an everyday basis: avoid the devil.

Your solution regarding this situation: run to your parents crying and have them speak to the principal - your case garners much more credibility that way. Principals are scared to death of parental confrontation; they know that a complaint is just one step away from a lawsuit.

holy crap… i’d go crazy if my counselor does that to me. i dont konw what i’ll do. LOL. i’ll go insane~~
good luck~

haha yea, nobody goes into her office without coming out crying.

imrighturwrong - ? um, no.

i went into her office to ask for a sticker for my id (haha), she looked up my schedule & freaked out when she saw 4 periods, started yelling & saying no college would accept me, i told her ucla did, she said she’s never seen UCLA accept a student with an open period, & by doing that i was coming off as lazy & someone who thinks they can just ‘sleep in and leave early,’ i told her ucla accepted me with that schedule & she said they would never & that she’d call ucla and make sure they didn’t + bring in my parents, etc …ughhh. haha.

conquester - … that’s our counselor right there. nobody talks to her unless they ABSOLUTELY have to, hahaha. i thought she would be able to get me rescinded so i cried yesterday HAHA :frowning: so embarrassing.

thanks rennn (: seeing her in 3 hours ahhhh.

fiore:
Your admission will not be rescinded. I believe this isn’t a violation, because you could have been taking outside courses at a community college at the same time, and no one would have known (you could have not reported it). Just as long as you meet the high school’s minimum requirement to get your diploma, you’re fine. Get 5s on your APs and prove her/him wrong that you are not lazy

I know someone who took 1 classe last semester or high school. I think the admission office is too busy to make any consideration to your counselor’s call.

Yes … too early for dorm shopping … wait for summer … do you realize this might be one of you last free summers ???

I would say the majority of the seniors at our top-rated CA public HS have a free period. DS was annoyed I nixed him having two (many of the seniors do)! And he did get accepted to UCLA.

What your counselor said was both illogical and cruel. And way to be on top of an “unacceptable” schedule almost half way through 2nd semester. I’d file that under “her problem” and not worry about it. If she pushes the issue (which I doubt) you may want to bring your parents in the loop.

do the other students in your school a huge favor. Write a letter of complaint addressed to the Superintendant of Schools, (put in the name of your district). CC your principal, and any other employee your counselor reports up through.

Nobody can get rid of vindictive, vituperative, abusive idiots like this without documentation in their HR folder.

haha fiore, I know a couple people from PV, they’re all my year though. Good luck on everything.

Yea. *** what a lame counselor. I would eat her/him up!

Ignore her. If you had 4 courses on your application, and UCLA accepted you, there is no need to add coursework just because she is flipping out.

If LA already accepted you, and you have signed your acceptance, and later rescinded, you have legal recourse against her. The threat of her job should be enough for her to leave you alone. Counselors are supposed to be there to help, not threaten High schoolers with their futures.

If you have priority enrollment, would it help you getting your lower division science classes at UCLA?

haha oh i don’t go to pv! my friends do though.

thanks everyone for your advice.

i talked to the nice counselor today (thank god the she-devil was out to lunch); i showed her my uc apps and everything was cleared. she said she wasn’t going to bring it up to the other counselor though, since she didn’t want to deal with her drama. haha.

score! thanks everyone. and i’m definitely not graduating without getting her back. >:[

I just graduated from UCLA, having lived all my life in Palos Verdes. I attended PVPHS. I am wondering if you attended Peninsula as well and had the same counselor as me.

Anyways, goodluck with all of this.

Like everyone, I’d say bring up this counselor’s attitude and threats with your principal; at the very least, you could help prevent more events like this from happening to future students at PV.
