I wanted to ask all of you, what does UCLA mean when it says that the admit GPA last year was like lets put 2 examples ok for history last year 3.5 and bus econ was 3.82, ok so does this mean everyone who got 3.5 and higher for history got in and less than 3.5 out and for busecon who got 3.82 and higher were in? Or does it say that it's "between" 3.4 and 3.6 and 3.65 and 3.85 since its an average? I dont quite get it. please check this website out:

and then you can play with it to check your specific major.

Also, Ive been hearing a lot of scary, unfair and very bad rumors about like for instance I applied as a transfer student to UC merced, UCSB, UCSD AND UCLA this year, and they say that ok even though UCLA would CONSIDER me but since they're competitive and for instance, merced needs more demand for students since not many attend, then UCLA would reject me and let merced accept me. Now this is completely BS and it would make me very, very mad, specially knowing that I live in LA and dont want to leave. I hope they accept us because we deserve it, not because another school needs more students. In that case, why even bother applying to the safety schools right? Everything should be fair and squared, not reject qualified students only because another needs that good student, what does everyone think? I just hope that all these rumors are false. Oright hope to hear from both of my concerns. take care everyone and good luck!

it means that, of all the people admitted, the average of their GPAs is whatever is listed. same goes for average applicants and average accepted.

ucla has it's own people read your essay and look at your application. if they think you're a good fit for the school, they'll offer you admission.

so does this mean that ok a person with a 3.5 if other people get 3.4's maybe even 3.3's and 3.6's 3.7's etc, thats how the 3.5 average happens? I was thinking that if I dont get the GPA listed, I am not in. Yeah hopefully your right in regards to them reading all the applications and not worrying that I put the other schools. Also, do you know if like lets say UCLA would get upset at me that I applied for other majors at the other 2 schools? they might think I am not too sure of what I want even though I ve taken the prereqs, and a wrote good essay explaining the major. hope they dont get mad for this. Oright hope to hear from you and thanks!

thats not true. Also, the gpa is an average not a requirement..

hey there, that was a joke right regarding if UCLA would get mad if I applied to the other schools by another major? why would it matter if I stated in the essay about the major at ucla. thanks for the average help by the way. I wasn't really understanding the procedure.

pinkerfloyd, I dont think your being that straightforward or maybe I am being misunderstood ok your saying "no room with television for a week" does this mean REJECTION? or no T.V in UCLA if I get accepted? and to "dontaskDonttell" yeah you make a point the mode would be nicer. Like I checked this website out a few weeks back and the recruiter at the school was like saying ok "guys look at this page this says that if you got at least a 3.6, you were admitted last year" she didnt explain averages or stuff like that and even like super A students and math people were all like impressed how high the GPA'S had gone in one year ( its coming from santa monica college by the way so no gimme college) but when I woke up this morning I realized that something wasn't right and yeah now it makes a little more sense. good luck to the school that you applied.

I just dont get what your saying, sounds like quotes, how can anyone understand when you say that if UCLA sees I applied for other majors at other schools, "they wont let me watch TELEVISION in my room for a week" I dont quite get if this means a rejection and it will make me sad for a week, or if your saying tv in the dorm. I am lost in your way of thinking.

no, man.
i'm saying that since you applied to different majors at the other schools to which you applied, if UCLA admits you, they'll make you stay in your dorm without television for the first week of classes.

I'll tell you what though, I'd prefer this as to not being accepted because of the rumors flying around of merced and the other UC'S wanting students. I have never ever heard of this before. who has told you this? please give me the website of where can I find this out, this is amazing. Like some official randomyl comes and says "ok you applied for other majors at other campuses, you cant watch tv as a punishment"? increidble, maybe you have a link of this. thanks for the clarification

i actually was waiting for pinker to see this. reading the first post (as a math major) made me cringe that the OP could not understand what an average means.

a LOT of people on this board do not understand what an average gpa means. same as a lot of people assume that anything below the average gpa means you will be rejected. I think most students think average is like mode.

I never imagined that universities average GPA in school is like the average we learn in the real world which by all means is very, very nice to hear. although yes its my fault, the counselour that came in confused the hell out of me and the students at the school because she was saying that those numbers that are in the UCLA website represent students who got admitted and everyone was like "****, we need over 3.82 for bus econ to get in, theres no way i get in now" Now guys, I know some posts have responded the other question of the merced and the other UC'S rumors. so what does everyone think? does UCLA reject studnts to let others have you? or they are fair and squared and accept you because you deserve it? what about UCLA getting mad because u applied to another major at another school? pinker was saying UCLA would not let me watch tv for a week thats ridiculous, (although hell, if I get accepted iam the kind of a person i can do any punishment but i will be so so happy tha nothing will matter) oright, hope to hear from you
