Countdown to Acceptance Letters

That is a problem with any big school. When you go there for interview, especially in Novemver/December, it is so crowded. And they hire many temporary employee for interview. If you happen to have your interview with those temp hire, they are not serious. Sometimes, they even sleep during the interview because they are so tired of interviewing all say. That happened to me when I interview with Exeter. You'd better apply to enough schools to increase the chance. Since most of the schools accept common application forsm, it is not hard to apply to many schools. here are some tips about the school ranking.

The ranking was determined based on SAT score, endowment/student, number of AP classes, number of Sports club, number of Extracurricular activities, boarding students ratio, students to teachers ratio, percentage of the advanced degree holding faculties, students per class, and its history(foundation year)

Oh man, did you think that I was complaining about the service?
Haha, not the case. My mom spelled out the name for her the lady misheard her! It's not that she was incompetent, temporarily hired, or anything.
(And you're definitely not the first to complain that I'm not applying to enough schools)
I'm applying to Choate, NMH, Andover, and Exeter. That is enough for me and I'm happy with it. Exeter, Andover, and Choate are reaches, with NMH being a relatively good fit, admissions wise. I'll be fine, and don't get all uppity saying "You should apply to like 8 or 15 schools cause it's better!"
Four is better.
For me.

If you apply to those four, I am pretty sure thaT you will be admitted to NMH assuming your credentials are good enough to be admitted to Andover, Exeter, and Choate since NMH acceptance rate is over 50%.

There are many other good schools whose teachers and staffs are much more friendly and nicer than those people you and I expeienced. If you really like NMH, you should go there. But I am sure you can find and go to many other good schools if you explore.

Good Luck to your success!

Thank you, erkybk, but everything you said I already know, to some extent.
I don't want to get into NMH just as "safety", or because it'll be easier. That's not why I'm applying. I really like the school, genuinely. I like Exeter more, though, seeing as I've been researching it since January and have spoken to students and faculty since early July on a regular basis. I've felt welcomed, barely any negativity (the small amount I have felt is from this CC board) and encouraged to apply. I am a good fit, in my opinion, as I am motivated, I want to be successful, and I love how they run the place.
Choate and Andover are there because they are successful, high-brow schools with the academics, athletics, and SIZE that I want. I want a large student body (small schools suffocate me) and the chance to branch out into my own area of study without neglecting any others. That's what Andover and Choate offer.
NMH is different from the other three because it IS less prestigious, it IS smaller, it IS more rural, and it is just plain different. I wanted to include it because of that difference- maybe, when I go on interviews, I'll realize that NMH is perfect and I hate the others with a passion. I doubt it, but it could happen. It's not my first choice but it's very close- if it came down to I didn't get into Exeter but all the others, then it'd be a long road to the decision BECAUSE of NMH.

I know there are other good school, friendlier teacher/staff, and such. There are schools who maybe don't have good numbers (small endowment, high acceptance rate, low financial aid) that simply don't appeal to me because of PERSONAL PREFERENCE, not because I care about prestige.

Sorry for the rant. I know you were being polite and just informing me, but I like these schools for my own reasons.

Four is a good number.

I, myself, applied to two, Exeter and Andover, because those are the only ones I wanted to consider.

Oooh, did you get in?
(I like people who strengthen my argument, hehe)
Four was pushing it for my mom.... We're making three 5-8 hour trips in the next 3 months, and the cost of these trips is going to be horrid. Oh well. I could cut out Choate or NMH, and I really want to apply to Andover and Exeter, so I just couldn't cut it down to three!

I got my applications materials from Exeter the other day. I was so excited.

But I can't fit both essays on the paper. I've tried writing minuscule, but it looks horrible. Both sides combined is about 17 inches- 8 1/2 for each, if I write equally. I'm at about 9-10 inches for just my first one!!

Also...

182 days til acceptance letters!!

Saer, when I wrote my essays last year, I gridded the entire sheet of paper in light pencil, wrote on the lines (in pen) and then erased the pencil, making it seem much neater than my usual writing. It also took up a lot less space

use online applications whenever it is offered :D

startin' a little early huh.....

-
do schools prefer that applicants use the online applications?
doesnt it show more effort or something if applicants use the paper ones?
and also, does it make a difference if you use the tabs common recommendations, or do they prefer their own?

definitely using the school's
if you use tabs then it kind of seems like to the school that you don't really care about them (imagine if you were the school; would you rather get a generic one that you realize could have been photocopied to ten other schools, or an original that was written especially for you?)

it probably shows more effort, but if you live international im guessing you'll be getting your DECISIONS later too (ugh)
then again i could be wrong about that. you could always call the school (but imagine if you were rejected lol. BADDD mood XD) if you don't feel patient and the letter hasn't arrived in i think at least 3 days (good to wait a bit)

Erkybk- sorry, but I find many of your posts to be very inaccurate. "They hire many temporary employee for interview?" Sorry- but I have sheparded children through more than 15 (all successful) interviews, and have never once experienced a temporary employee. They were all permanent members of the schools' admissions staffs, except for one at a really cool boys' school who was a 30+ veteran English teacher at the school. She was brought in because we interviewed after hours due to a sports tournament. If you are going to post on a public chat board, which is viewed by many young hopeful students from all over the world, you should be more careful to have your facts straight.

Is anyone else getting mail from schools they didn't ask for????

Yeah^, but it's because I went to a boarding school fair where you write down your info, so all these schools that I don't really like are contacting me, like Taft, South Kent, etc.

Ohh I went to a fair too :) In Westover

Haha! Me too! I was there!!!!

Maybe we met lol :)

Are you a boy or girl? haha

Girl, what about you?
