Countdown to August 1st for Class of 2012- Who's Ready To Apply?

The countdown is on! Only a few more weeks until the 2012 common application opens. I'm sure many of you are beginning to write practice essays, fill out practice supplements, and much more.

I'm continuing my practice for the ACT, and will be taking it in the fall... Likely applying ED, so I'm pumped..

How are you guys preparing for the new application, and what routes are you taking regarding the application process?

I’m so excited!! Been waiting for this day since 9th grade! I have been coming up with ideas for my essay topic, studying for SAT and ACT, reading books on college essays, relaxing, and visiting colleges! I’m very excited yet nervous at the same time!

I’m excited! I’ve been working on my essays for the past few weeks and studying for the October SAT…I’m ready!

It feels kinda weird that after 17.5 years…this fill-out-a-form is where I’m ending up.
Quite frankly, I’m scared out of my mind yet frustrated that whatever goes down with ink (or black on the screen…) and is read over in a matter of minutes can determine my whole future. That those few pages are supposed to explain years of me, years of dreams, years of who I am, and then some strangers decide what I will be for the rest of my life after reading the black and white is plain scary.
But regardless, I have been arguing with adults what I want to present in my essays (because the generic “I read only classics all the time and I look down on all else” always works apparently hmph), emailing my favorite teachers about recommendations and gathering folders for organizational purposes, and stalking class of 2012 students on CC :)

I feel the same pressure and excitement you guys are feeling… I have my idea for my supplement essay, while I still need to debate what essay to write for the Common App. Anyone here applying early decision/early action?

I’m very excited :stuck_out_tongue: though i’ll wait till september to start doing supplements. I cant wait to be a senior, because once the college season is over, I can finally have a break (while still doing well in school and participating in my ECs, of course :stuck_out_tongue: )

@MiselisM -I will definitely be applying early somewhere-I think the most stressful part of the past year has been deciding exactly where! …should decide where soon…:)

I’m applying Restrictive Early Action to Stanford. I’ve been writing my common app and supplement essays so now I practically have most of them done for now until I talk with my teachers in the fall to help me revise. I’ve already asked my teachers for recommendations and I’ve got a resume together so it looks like the last nasty part of the application awaits…paperwork with my school.

Although, I do feel good about my essays so far because I’ve already wrote college style essays for numerous summer programs. Hopefully it turns out well for us all.

Already wrote my supplement essays for my colleges except Pomona. I will ED1 Scripps. Just have to sort out recommendations and the Common App essay. I have written several versions of different topics but I’m not sure if they really tell people who I am.

Nice… I need to get a start on that. Want to get most of it done before the school year begins.

Can’t wait to start… Pretty much spent the last few days filling out my brag sheet and working on essays.

Ergh…I probably won’t have internet connection when August 1 comes around. That upsets me.

I’m applying early action to my match school, and praying that I get in so I can relax senior year. I’m excited and nervous at the same time. :(

I’ve already written all of my supplement essays for potential schools + common app drafts. The only thing I have to work on in the fall is teacher recs and standardized tests! :)

I’m applying Yale SCEA. Will probably get rejected but it has been my dream school since I was very young! I feel all of your guys’ pain. Especially the fact that 2 minutes will decide what colleges we get accepted, rejected, and waitlisted at. Gah. I just wish I could finish/submit my applications now and end the worrying and apprehension.

Yeah, i’m ready.

I’ll be applying to 11 schools, seven of which I’ll be doing EA.

I need to finish my essays and stuff like that.
I’m only worried about finding scholarships quickly.

I’m so nervous as a first gen college student. This process is so very overwhelming for me and although my brother did do some college, he did not apply for selective schools, have to write essays, or use common app, so I don’t know how much help he is.

I also need to read 4 more books for summer assignments and haven’t really thought about my essays yet. slaps self Get to work, me!

Hello all! I’m applying as an international student and am basically feeling very doomsday-ish about apps  Trying to decide between ED to Duke or Cornell CALS (Plus, will probably get rejected at both!! Ahhh) Taking ACT and SAT Subject Tests in Oct, and IB HL Math and Chem in Nov. -nervous beyond belief-

For those who’ve already written your essays, would you recommend starting on the main Common App essay first or each of the supplements first?? (those who haven’t started feel free to answer too :))

Having just gone through this with my daughter, let me just say: I bet you have all worked hard and many schools would be lucky to have you. But this process is not an authoritative referendum on who you are as a person or a student. Remember that. Good luck.

Am I ready to apply?

Hell to the no. I’ve got essays for school, essays for the common app. (topic? what topic?), SAT study, college visits and tours and interviews. And instead of doing any of that, you’re most likely to find me reading a freaking book… that was not one of the 2 or 3 assigned by teachers.

I’ve actually been overwhelmed with summer work - both for school and for groups I’m working with. College essays aren’t entirely on my radar at the moment, but I have a good idea of what I’ll be writing about.
