What's philosophy of law about? I'm curious.

The primary debate conducted in this subject is on ethics and law. That is, if laws themselves should have normative substance, or if laws should be independent of ethics, therefore requiring no ethical justificaiton to determine its legality. This debate leads to several "mini-debates," such as: how to regard precedent, the construction of new law, the bounds of legitimate state coercion, specific monetary calculi for assessing liability in civil cases, how to interpret the constitution and so forth.

The latter-most topic is perhaps the most difficult to tackle. :)

physics and anthropology, rice-obsessive? Wow, what is up with that?! (translation: sounds awesome.) You must be pretty well-rounded academically then, huh?

I certainly hope so. When we had the Rice reps here in Charlotte, the rep. seemed pretty impressed at the complexity of my questions about the University. I'm hoping that bodes well.

Dum-de-dum.. let the panic begin!
I have really low expectations so that I won't be crushed if I ever do get rejected. Sigh, sorry, I hope my pessimism isn't contagious...

I don't think the panic has quite hit me yet. It'll probably come full force when February rolls along, and when I finally realize that I should be expecting something in the mail.

Haha your pessimism is somehow contagious in a comforting way. I think I should be more pessimistic so I won't be disappointed or anything.

hahah...me too...hmm...when i looked into my past years in high school..i dont think i could work any harder than i did...i already gave it my all...but my motto is "you can never work too hard"...haha how gay? i know hahah...

rice-obsessive: I want to double-major in a science and anthropology too! Well, I'm considering biology and anthropology. Yay, that's so cool! I've never talked to anyone who also liked a science-social science combo.

Does econ and some science/engineering count too? While I indicated econ as my primary interest for Rice, I'm also definitely considering the double-major. I actually have met quite a few science/econ people myself, so I'm surprised that the social science/hard science combo isn't more common.

As of the recent debate that occurred on this very forum, it is not advisable that you use such a word.

Lol, I was thinking of the same thing. In fact.. because of that "debate," my ear is much more attuned to that word than before, and when someone uses it, I notice it.

oh goshies..i am sorry..forgot about the debate..but gay has many meanings..i didnt mean anything by it...
anywho..rice rules!! go owls!! woot woot!!

but but...but...when i said it i meant that the situation was dork..weird
Gay can mean homosexual, happy, weird etc..it just depends on the person.
flowers...it can mean love, birth= starts out as a seed then blossom into something beautiful, life= how short life is or whatever...flowers dont last that long, death= flowers at funerals etc
but yall should tell which gay i am talking about [dorky..weird] by using my context clues...
hmm...with the rice application...the main essay...i answered the prompt but it was more implied than stated, but that is just my style. should i write a note telling the admission ppl that or something?

Haha, funny how you bite your tongue, nspeds. ;)

I understand what you meant when you said "gay." I only hear it about ten times a day. :D Anyway, I think he said that the way you used it, it only has one meaning because it's being used pejoratively.

I don't think any note to the admissions office is necessary just to tell them that your essay is more implied than stated. If it really bothers you, I don't think a note would hurt you or anything though. As I think about it, my Rice essay was sort of implied in a way, too. So don't worry, dear. =)

sigh..since I just got rejected from UNC-Chapel Hill EA, COME ON RICE ACCEPT ME PLEASE! LET AT LEAST ONE GOOD UNIVERSITY ACCEPT ME. WAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!
