Ethnic diversity and internationals weren’t huge, weren’t tiny either. Not a minority, unfortunately, but ethnic diversity is great.

I loved their science department, all of them have top notch and the people and feel just felt great

And Just curious how much of a difference will a good ssat score make

There is actually already a thread on that topic. Here it is below:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1279624-ssat-discussion.html

I think it really varies by each applicant… If your scores are in the upper 80s or 90s, I don’t think it would make a significant difference, because that’s pretty much what they expect. If your applying to an extremely competitive school, and your scores are 60s and below (which mine are) then I do think it would raise eyebrows…

Keep in mind, that SSAT scores, grades, etc. aren’t the only components of your application that AOs look at.

Thanks, so between 80 and 99 percentiles it really doesn’t make a huge distinction?

I don’t particularly think so.

@blehjoints The speed boosts make me so mad but I love invisibility. It makes my life so much easier lol.

@starkali 9th grade at Choate, Hotchkiss, and Andover. wbu?

Also, I’m a minority ethnicity-wise, because I’m Asian, Hispanic, and Cuban. There’s probably some Caucasian in there somewhere but those three make me sound more diverse haha :P. Socioeconomically, I’m not that diverse; for example, I’m FP. Which I am very grateful for But diversity is super important to me, because the school I go to is majority dominated, and everyone has the same views on different subjects (which stinks, because my opinions totally oppose theirs). :D

Aubreygal: 10th grade at Emma Willard, Peddie, NMH, Westminster, Concord, Dana Hall, Mercersburg, and Lawrenceville :)

My current school is also majority dominated and is primarily composed of uber-conservative, Republicans. While I have nothing against conservatives personally, part of me wishes that there were also some students who had similar viewpoints as I do. I feel that at boarding school, while there will be plenty of students who are “uber-conservative”, there is a better chance that there will also be some students who have opinions and viewpoints that are similar to my own. :D

Awh, looks like we have none of the same schools. And omg same thing with mine too! They all have the same conservative views (but I guess I’m kind of asking for it in a religious private school…) and during Religion class I really want to say something, but I don’t. Don’t want to risk being beat up :P

omg guys I know how you feel. i’m an over-represented minority (CHINESEEEEEE<3) and it’s the same at my school - everyone has almost the same opinion in every matter. I mean, I’m not looking for people to share my views, I’m just hoping to find people who agree to disagree, and not just go with the majority. :)

@aubreygal - haha YES the invisibility rocks i spent my coins upgrading it! :D

I know I’m probably super late with my Temple Run high score but it’s 1,126,920. Every time I feel any kind of pride over my score I see someone with like a 4,000,000.

Bksvet310: Heck, I can’t even get to 600,000, let alone 4,000,000! haha

Today I met with my counselor. He wanted to know a little bit more about my decision to apply to boarding school. After we talked a little bit about why I wanted to apply, he asked what the worst case scenario what be when it came to receiving decision letters. I thought about it a little bit. I then realized, that given my credentials, I may not be accepting to ANY school. Is anyone else having anxiety about that? Or is just me?

I have similar gut feelings, but I’ve got backup plans so no worries.

Speaking of backup plans, I’m doing my freshman year course selection for my local public school. It’s not a bad school, by the numbers, merely average, but I’m looking at the one-page course list in front of me and trying to stifle a giggle when I think of the courseBOOK from Andover. The latter reads like a novel, for God’s sake.

I’m a bit tempted to blow it off. But I am reminding myself, there is a huge, very real chance I won’t be accepted. So I have to take this seriously.

OMG, I’m totally the same way CherryRose. But, I can’t help looking at all the course selections and options; I need to keep telling myself that there’s a 75% chance I won’t get in. You’re right, it totally does stink to go from 100 pages of English electives to 100 words on the whole curriculum. lol :)

CherryRose and Aubreygal: I absolutely agree. Some of the schools that I’m applying to, have a much more vast selection of courses in comparison to my current school. When I look at the course catalogs, I’m just so intrigued by the variety in courses! Let’s just hope, that all of us get into to atleast one of our choices… Cheers!

Class of '16 and proud of it! I’m only applying to Lawrenceville since like others have said: I’m content at the school I go to now, but deep down know that L’ville is better. Plus, I know that this will sound really kiddish and immature of me, but I just don’t think I’m ready to go to boarding school (I would be a day school at L’ville.) I think that I want to just stay as close to home for as long as I can until I go to college. And I know that this stinks but my Temple Run score is 609,800. I have the Asian girl character, and I love the magnet power up!:)

NO SCHOOL has received my English recs yet, and although my teacher says that she always has bad luck with the post, I’m pretty sure that she hasn’t sent them for some reason. 1. Very few letters get lost in the mail, according to both USPS and the AOs, 2. If it was sent when she claimed it was sent, more than a month ago, it should be there, 3. All my other recs got there with the same addresses and stamps.

I’m feeling very frustrated right now at a lot of the adults involved in the app process. I’ve done my part, but too many of them aren’t cooperating at all.

CherryRose - I’d suggest asking if she kept a copy and, if so, ask her to resend them. (That way they get sent now, even if they never got sent before.) Even better, ask your school office if they will fax it to the schools for you - and then just request that the teacher deliver a copy to the school office. (The school office could also scan and email it.)

Good luck!

Thank you. Will do… I’ve already sent her an email, but she’s out on a “family emergency”, so I’ll have to wait.
