My S had 5’s in AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Physics B, AP Comp Sci, APush, AP Calc AB, etc… and had perfect scores on math 2 Sub test and physics sub tests and almost perfect scores on bio and chem sub tests. He will graduate with 17 AP classes with 5’s in virtually every one of them. He did not get a fee waiver. He visited Rice spring break of his junior year. Had any of you visited Rice before you sent your scores and received the fee waiver?

@Keepyourshirton I read somewhere (I’m pretty sure it was on Rice’s website) that fee waivers don’t apply to international students, and I doubt you’d be able to do an interview unless they decided to do it over Skype. I don’t think you have anything to worry about on that front.

lol i had to pay for my interviews… so i decided not to…

Wow…I leave for a couple of hours and when I get back? My College Confidential notification bar BLOWS UP…Haha

Also, you had to have finished and submitted your application by December 15 to request and interview so my s didn’t request one. We visited on campus, went to an information session in local area, and he talked to Rice rep at school. I hope that shows enough interest.

@encouragingmom similar story here – visited rice springbreak of jr year, 5’s on 6 APs including Chem, perfect scores on Math II and Chem subject tests, no fee waiver offered. (And no interview – live too far away, couldn’t do it junior year, couldn’t get back for another visit, just didn’t happen.) We’ll see.

We visited in the fall of ds’s junior year. Ds received a fee waiver which stated it was because of his AP scores. He did not apply until after December 15th, so it was too late to request an interview. Hope the visit to campus was “enough” demonstrated interest. It is frustrating that one cannot interview as a junior.

I got 5s on chem and bc calc my junior year and was offered a fee waiver because of my AP scores, supposedly. I have no idea what the criteria was. I was on their mailing list though (that might have nothing to do with it of course).

Oh that’s a relief. I’ve been writing emails to Rice and they have been responsive. Hope that shows interest

I think the whole “interest” card is slightly overrated in our situation. Rice is not Tufts or WashU… Applying for interviews, showing interest, etc is only slightly helpful but I would not call it “highly recommended” as some would advise for WashU and Tufts. If one is to get rejected from Rice, I don’t think lack of interest would be the reason for it, unlike what most people say about WashU.

But then again, its always advisable to be on the safe side and do everything you can if its in your hands. I showed interest in Rice through several means, interview included.

Agreed. In Rice admission people can probably tell whether or not you are genuinely interested through your 3 why Rice essays

When does Rice RD results come out?

@Phoenix55555 We’ve been speculating tomorrow.

Really? Do you know what time it is? I thought it said on their website , April 1st tho…

Hope it is tomorrow and not later! We already had a false alarm LOL
I cannot wait any longer!!!

Why does everyone think it’s tmrw? Did they send out an email or something?

^ people are speculating that based on previous years notification date

Has anyone heard about specific time?
I know upenn and Harvard and those places are supposed to be 5 pm EDT on Thursday. What about Rice???

Ok, sorry if this sounds kind of mean/rude but everyone that hasn’t been following this thread and been in the conversation: CHILL.

I understand that it is very nerve-wrecking to NOT know when decisions are coming out but so far NO official word has been made about Rice’s decision date and time. We here on CC are speculating based on what we do know (stuff like previous years dates and timings, rumors, close contacts, etc).

I don’t mean to sound rude or anything but as of this point, we have gone through this process multiple times about when decisions are coming out for Rice. If for some reason Rice had released official word, this thread would have blown up and everyone would be mentioning it like ever other comment.

You all freaked me out! Especially the person who said they had done “connection” with rice admissions. I started close to the beginning of this thread and kept reading. I was way too scared to skip to the end because I thought more and more that Friday was the decision time and that I some how missed it. So glad it’s not. Hopefully it’s soon though!
