Countdown to RD Decisions (Class of 2018)

@quotable - Due to the fact that Rice is a private university, I’d assume that they don’t have a certain in-state vs. out-of-state ratio (as to how many students they can accepted in state vs. out of state) like most good public universities, like UNC Chapel Hill do. I really don’t think it matters where you come from, but then again, I could be wrong.

I heard they’re trying to get more out of state students

really? thats gd for me… lol btw im international

One thing to keep in mind is that this year there have been twice as many new out of state applicants to Rice than new Texas applicants when compared to last year. Although this should not make a difference, I would imagine that it is slightly (almost minuscule) harder to get into from somewhere outside of Texas than within Texas. Other schools like Duke have shown similar minute differences as well. Another logical reasoning for this is that a private university that is very well known in the state (like Rice) tends to keep more detailed “tabs” on in-state high schools than those out of the state because those high schools show up more often on their radar. This might lead to Rice understanding Texas high schools as a whole a little bit more than out of state “ordinary” high schools (not talking about famed high schools and/or charter/math-science academies). But like I said earlier, I doubt it causes any real differences in admissions.

I believe that being an international student for top 20 schools is a negative just because most of those schools (including Rice) have distinct international quotas and are need-aware for internationals.

Are those statistics published somewhere?

@SoCalDad2

http://news.rice.edu/2014/02/27/rice-applications-set-a-record-2/

Increase of 9% in Texas applicants
Increase of 17% in Non-Texas applicants
Increase of 19% in International applicants

*These are overall application numbers (both ED and RD).

Accepting more OS students sometime help schools overall Rating in a positive way.

:( oh… meh… damn it idk i probs wont get in… its a reach anyways …

and I even made a spelling mistake in one of my essays… wrote that instead of than… asldkcmasdlkcmsdjkvnsdlcmsadlckmaslkdcnasdcklm okay :-<

Are we still feeling today for admissions decisions?

^^ Depends what @keepyourshirton Friend in AO thinks.

@matrixsurgeon doesnt it feel like this year is the toughest year ever to get into a good college?

I feel like every year the competition just gets worse everywhere

Exactly. People around the country are better prepared and more qualified every year; hence, it gets harder to get into a good school

So we could potentially get our decisions in 2 hours…

…or next Tuesday, April 1. It is the not having a specific release date that is making me so anxious. I’m hoping it’s tonight.

@emanonR @cutiedida @FLstudent2014
I agree with all of you guys. This year seems to be pretty intense, even when compared to last year!! Almost every school is increasing in applications and the ones that are not have applicants that are very qualified. But what can we do other than go by the system and hope for the best??

Look at this way, the Next Year will be Tougher then this Year, so you all are lucky you applying This Year not Next Year… Just Imagine what its going to look like in 3-5 Yrs…

7 min

@Dontor, I believe if it does come out today, it’ll be at 5PM CST.
