Countdown to RD decisions

What does the rejection letter say anyways? I’ve always wondered…

Here’s what mine said:

Dear [redacted],

The Admissions Committee has completed its review of your application. I am very sorry to tell you that we are unable to offer you admission to MIT.

Please understand that this is in no way a judgment of you as a student or as a person, since our decision has more to do with the applicant pool than anything else - many of our applicants are not offered admission simply because we don’t have enough space in our entering class. This year we had over 18,000 candidates for fewer than 1,600 offers of admission, from which will come our 1,100 freshmen. Since all of our decisions are made at one time and all available spaces have been committed, all decisions are final.

I wish you the very best in all of your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Stuart Schmill
Dean of Admissions

thanks! my bad. DS got rejected. He did get accepted to his #1 Canadian choice this morning…Waterloo, Co-op Computer Science and we are thrilled, none the less.

Rejected

Although I’m not devastated at rejection. I totally understand the realities of the applicant pool. It just stinks because I always knew I wouldn’t be in the throw-out pile. Ah well, on to new things!

I can’t believe it… I got in. Good luck to everyone else who might be disappointed! It’s not the end of the world!

“18,357 students applied to the MIT Class of 2018. As of today, and inclusive of Early Action, we have offered admission to 1419”

Only now could I comprehend how competitive MIT is :frowning: .I’m really feel happy for the ones who get admitted. But if you are not admitted, it’s not the end of the world. Keep calm and moving on

Waitlisted.

ACCPETEDFJLSKDJFKLDS

Deferred EA > Accepted RD with a full ride. I can’t believe it!

@Aryvane…how do you know you have a full ride? Did you get finaid info back already?

Aryvane,

What do you mean by “full ride”? Based on your income of 100K + as you indicated in the other thread, that wouldn’t make sense that MIT gave you enough scholarship to cover tuition, room, and board. Do you mean full tuition is covered by MIT scholarship (which is need-based only)?

@SwagDaddy: children of faculty and staff get free tuition for 4 years. So I suppose it’s not exactly a free ride. But a large burden off our shoulders either way. =)

Congrats to everyone who got in, and best of luck to the waitlisted and denied as they wait for other decisions!
