@sbjdorlo: Relation to faculty/staff means they’ll cover 4 years of tuition. I believe I still have to pay room and board.

I’ve moved some comments here from the decisions thread – please remember that thread is no-chat.

Thanks, Mollie. Sorry for the chat on the other list.

Aryvane-glad you clarified. That makes more sense. Full ride means tuition, room and board, fyi.

I’d like to add that even in cases that MIT gives enough financial aid to cover tuition, room, and board, they never give enough for a full ride. There is always a mandatory student contribution because MIT believes that every student must contribute to their own education. If the student is in a very low income bracket and doesn’t have the savings, they are expected to earn it during the summer and school year. The only way to get a completely full ride is when MIT gives maximum financial aid and the student is awarded outside scholarships that total more than their expected contribution.

It’s very easy to find jobs to cover the student contribution portion at MIT. Some students get paid when taking UROP classes.

Competition was definitely quite cutthroat this year. I was an Intel STS finalist, but not only did I get waitlisted, but a few other finalists did also. I give my sincerest congrats to those who got admitted! And for those who got rejected/waitlisted - don’t worry! You’ll end up somewhere which will be the best fit for you

The full ride, or scholarships to cover student contribution, may have come from a source outside of MIT.

WOW @maryylaand. Congratulations on all your acceptances so far! I must truly applaud you on the most surgically sophisticated college application list. You have really done your homework in applying to what we call “a balanced portfolio of schools…reach to match to safety” that interested YOU…especially schools strong in engineering. Good luck with the rest of your applications. I hope other students can learn from your wise list.

so i know that tubes are traditionally only sent to ea students, but the acceptance email this year suggests that regular students will receive tubes as well. can anyone confirm?

Yes, I think tubes were also sent to RD admits last year, and perhaps the year before.

woohoo! thanks for the info. do you have as to when we’ll be receiving these? i’ve been slightly paranoid the last few days because of the lack of tube.

^same here omg. Have they been sent out already, or not yet? I’m worried it got lost or that it’ll arrive when I’m out of town and will be accidentally discarded by my parents…

Some have been received already so I think they’re floating around the country right now.
