Couple of Qs About UF

For any of the 2010 people who are beginning in the summer or the fall... how many credits do you plan on taking for Semester 1? I understand that they advise you to take 12, but I also understand that a lot of people are comfortable with 15.

For anyone who knows... is it possible to get a specific teacher for a class you want to take? For example, if I have researched various professors for a course at www.ratemyprofessor.com, when registering for classes, do I have any control over which teacher I get?

Im not c/o2010, but if your starting summer b you should take 6 credits (~2 classes) but an absolute max of 9 if you can do it. Remember that summer B is 6 weeks and if you take 3 classes you will probably have 3 test to study for every 2 weeks and that can be difficult to study for all three.

One thing I want to say is not to consider college courses esp non-gened classes like AP classes. In high school you might of taken 6,7,8 AP classes and did great but when you come to college taking that many classes is really really difficult to do, esp classes that are ap class equil. here.

You can pick the professor that you want pending that the section is open. If its not you have to constantly check ISIS to see if that section becomes open. The better teacher usually fills fast, but its not impossible to get into.

for example:

My senior year I took AP Eng Lit, AP Gov, AP Macro, AP Calc AB, AP Micro, AP Bio, and symph. band

Very doable and thought it wasnt that bad.

At UF that would be:
ENC2... (dont remember) 3 credits
american govt 3 credts
ECO2013 3 credts
MAC2311 4 credits
BSC2010 with lab 4 credts
band 2 credits

Thats 19 credits and I would never take that much and its too hard to do.

I agree - I am transferring this Fall to UF - I take on average 14 or 15 hours.
For starting my junior year though, I am dropping it down to 12 just to feel out UF, and see how the course work differs from Community College. Go to slow, and you can pick up speed along the way. Go to fast, and you can screw your GPA - which is very important for Grad school and your future.

just my .02
