Couple of questions about the common app

Under the "activities" section, does Model U.N. go under "debate/speech"?

If I did 250 community service hours, do I list it as one activity and explain the different volunterring positions under the "details" section, or do I seperate it into all the activities I've done?

In both cases you can either combine them or list the individual activities separately. I’d recommend combining them unless you want to highlight something in particular. For example, if you’ve done a lot of volunteer hours somewhere, you are writing an essay about the experience and you have a letter of rec from your supervisor, break it out separately. If you have a list of activities that were one-off events and none of them are really critical to you all, combine them all as ‘volunteering’ and mention very briefly what you’ve done. Likewise with debate/speech - If Model UN was a big deal to you, break it out. If not, combine it with all the other debate/speech activities you’ve done.

It’s a question of emphasis. General rule of thumb is the more ‘real estate’ you allot to a topic or activity, the more important that topic or activity is presumed to be to you.
