I know for the Ivies amd such, people always say take the hardest courses available. Do these type of schools truly look through a coursebook to see if you took the hardest course avaible. For example, my school's profile only says the highest course avaible in each department. WHat do the schools truly look at? What about state schools?

I'm pretty sure they can tell by looking at your transcript.

Do this:

Take the hardest courseload that you can manage without worrying about GPA. If you can maintain a 3.6+ your good.

Put yourself into the admissions officer's position and you are looking at two applicants.

One took a courseload of difficulty 8 and the other 10. The 8 had a 4.0 average and the 10 had a 3.7. The 8 will look bad because it will seem that they only challenged themself enough to keep that 4.0, whereas the 10 seems like they wanted to learn as much as possible and did not worry as much about grades.

If you happen to have the hardest possible courseload and a 4.0 then great!

How can they tell by looking at your transcript? My school doesn't really have honors classes besides APs and ENglish. Also, I didn't really set myself up right to take the hardest science courses. In other subjects im good, how will this hurt me if at all. I still plan to take AP Chem as a senior.

um...bump!
