I am planning to sign a TAG with UCI for engineering. There is one required course that is listed as programming and problem solving in MATLAB. However, my school does not offer MATLAB but still has a course equivalent listed on assist.org. Would I have to take a course that offers MATLAB or would I be able to just take what is articulated on the assist website?
if there is an articulated class listed on ASSIST then I believe they will expect you to take it.
Whether you need to learn MATLAB would be something you can find out by a call to the engineering advisor at UCI; you will be at a disadvantage once enrolled at UCI if they give out assignments in engineering classes you take that assume knowledge of MATLAB. On their website they say “Contact: Academic Counselor, The Henry Samueli School of Engineering, 305 Rockwell Engineering Center, (949) 824-4334.”
You should look at other CC’s in your area to see if they offer the articulated class taught using MATLAB. A lot of students end up taking courses at more than one CC. You are in a bit different boat since you have an articulated class at your CC but the content isn’t exactly the same as what UCI students learn.
