Hi All,
Brand new to the forum and need some advice, preferably from those that have taken either one of the following courses:
http://www.conestogac.on.ca/fulltime/1009.jsp
https://academics.sheridancollege.ca/programs/computer-programmer
I’m thinking about taking one of these courses through Second Career (if I can get funding). I chose these courses because per Second Career’s guidelines/rules they’ll only fund courses that are 2 years in length or less. I like the fact that Sheridan’s program has a fast track option (8 less months as a starving student) but I don’t want that alone to be the deciding factor. I’d like to hear from anyone that took (or is currently taking) one of these 2 courses - how did/do you find the quality of the course? Is the curriculum relevant and up to date for what employers need? For example, the Sheridan course has an HTML/CSS component (which is good) but the industry is already embracing HTML5/CSS3. Most importantly, did taking the course GET YOU A JOB? I only have one chance to get this right and I don’t want to waste my time.
Update: OK, so I got to thinking over the weekend that maybe I should only be considering programming courses that have co-op components to them. It would be nice to get some real-world experience before I graduate that may even lead to an offer. On that note, I’d also like to hear from anyone that has a taken such a course similar to the 2 above but that did have a co-op component (and did you find a placement)? Obviously, I’m most interested in knowing if you got a programming job out of it in the end.
