Course Rigor for UCs, Cornell, Johns Hopkins

I wasn’t sure if my course rigor was sufficient for the UCs, Cornell and JHU. In freshman year, we cannot take weighted classes. In soph, we can generally take up to 2 weighted, in junior, we can take up to 6, and the same goes for senior year. I took 2 weighted in soph year, 3 in junior, and will be taking 3 in senior. Is this sufficient for the colleges I listed in accordance with the classes offered by my school? My weighted classes:

10th: AP Euro, Honors Chem
11th: AP Chem, AP Lit, Honors Spanish
12th: AP Bio, AP Psych, AP Lang

I am planning on becoming a bio major

Your course rigor will be judged against how you compare to your HS peers. How many AP classes do the top students take at your HS?

@Gumbymom i think theres are vary few people who take 6 weighted classes, but many of the top students take 4-5 weighted

Then you should be fine. At my son’s schools, the top students took around 10-12 AP’s, so like I stated above, it will vary with each school. As long as you shown that you have a taken a rigorous course load for your HS, everything is good.

@Gumbymom, sorry I meant 4-5 weighted only in junior year. As a whole, I think the students receiving topmost grades are taking between 10-12 weighted classes. I will have taken 8 weighted by the end of high school, do you think that is a decent course rigor?

Yes that course rigor is above decent. Although the top students do take 10+ AP classes, unless you can do the same and mantain a high gpa (get mostly A’s) then it is not worth it. The average AP classes taken across the board at IVY/Top colleges is between 6-8 (I remember hearing this). Getting a high GPA while taking AP Classes that demonstrate interest in what you would like to major in is sufficient in my opinion.

Agree ^^^^

What about math and other science? How about Ap American government and Economics.
I think you course rigor could be light, AP Psych is a light weight.

I am doing AP Bio and regular physics next year because they do not allow us to double up on two weighted sciences in the same year.

I think it’s depends on the school. My kid’s high school, she can take 9-10 APs without stretching herself.

@DrGoogle is that 9-10 AP’s or 9-10 weighted classes (including honors)

APs, a few weighted or honor classes.
