Will colleges recognize an elective as a “rigorous” class? For example, I took anatomy & physiology instead of AP chemistry, mostly because I find chemistry to be dry and anatomy to be very interesting. I’ve also taken other science electives such as microbiology, genetics, and pathology. All of them have been very difficult, but I’m afraid colleges will see them as just an easy class to take instead of an AP. What are your views on this?
I’m not a college admissions officer, so I can’t say how each college will view these electives, but I don’t think it will hurt you- it’s not like you’re taking underwater basket weaving.
If I saw your application, I would see nothing more than someone who likes science a lot. If science is what you want to do in college, then I say go for it!
Your GC will mark the rigor of your course schedule. If your overall rigor is rated as “Most rigorous,” colleges are not going to dive into the weeds to look at your individual classes. While you will spends hours and hours on your application, AO’s will spend 15 mins at most reading it. Don;t worry about it.
Thank you everyone!
